Anyone else applying to OU's accelerated BSN program in San Diego?

Published

Just wanted to know if anyone else from san diego has applied or is going to apply to the University of Oklahoma's online Accelerated BSN program?

a link to their webpage is http://www.ounursing.com

Did you already get the OK from the academic counselor that you are going to be starting in June? I was hoping to start in January but my pre-req won't be done till the end of Fall 2008 semester and I recently just got an e-mail saying all the pre-req have to be done before turning in my application. So that means I would have to wait till June to start also, but that doesn't mean I get in for sure. So I was just wondering if you already got approve to start the program in June?

I have been admitted to the June 2008 program so I'll be starting June 2nd. I have a friend who is also interested in OU & was hoping to apply for January, but she won't be able to after all for the same reason. She will still be taking prereq's next fall as well.

Hi! I'm just about to start my second semester. I have a little one who will be one this week. The program takes up a lot of time. I was originally told only two to three days a week, so my husband and I thought it was a perfect program. It turned out to be a lot more. It can be done, but it takes time, determination, and a lot of support. Be sure you have someone (or many people) to support you and that they understand this is an accelerated program. It will take most of your attention!

Hi CaringBella!

Thanks for the great info! I'm starting in June as well. So far every current student I have talked to says to keep up with the reading. How many pages a week, would you say you need to read? Also, do you get a 2 week break between now & the Summer semester or are you in a class?

We have a 3 week break between spring and summer semester but we have a course to complete during that time (I've been working on that for the past two weeks!) As far as reading, there's so much I have no idea how many pages...it varies per week per class but it's A LOT. Hope you're ready, June 2nd is just around the corner! Best of luck! :nuke:

I posted a list of online pre reqs that satisfy OU requirements here:

i will be starting this fall. how about you?

i am hoping to be accepted for the fall term. i'm really nervous. a friend i did a pre-req class with just started this week and she is in serious shock. it's more intense than she thought it would be, but she says it can be done.

This program has my eye for sure. Like all pre-nursing students I have to finish pre-reqs prior to submitting my application. I'm looking at the 2nd degree program, this would be a career change for me, move from IT to nursing.

.

If you don't mind my prying, what is the cost of the OU program? Is there a wait list? There doesn't appear to be one mentioned on their site.

Thank you and good luck.

Erik

Hey Erik,

I am also in San Diego working in IT, and looking into getting into nursing. I was wondering if you'd be willing to talk to me so we could share some thoughts. I don't know if there's a private message capability on here...

I met with an admissions counselor on Tuesday and asked about this list. They said that the list is out-of date and no longer distributed. It is best to just check course descriptions wuith them. The counselor I met with has me email her the descriptions and says if they will or won't work. I sent her some descriptions for Rio Salado College (an online school) and she let me know what copurses worked. I can't wait to get into the program, so taking courses online is ideal so I can keep working until I have to quit for the program!

If you dont mind can you tell me what courses she said you could take at Rio???? Now I am scared because I am taking History online at one of the colleges posted by Erik

thanks

It was various Rio courses. I registered for POS 110 for U.S. Government and PSY 240 for Developmental Psychology. I already have U.S. History finished. Have you met with one of their counselors? Check with the counselor if she course you're in is okay. you ahve to email them the course description.

Best of luck!
