Anyone else applying to OU's accelerated BSN program in San Diego?

Just wanted to know if anyone else from san diego has applied or is going to apply to the University of Oklahoma's online Accelerated BSN program?

i agree, it is tough to get into those classes and getting the pre-reqs to those as well. which CC are you going to? I went to Grossmont and liked the classes very much and the teachers were good. having your units transferred helps, you get a way better registration date. good luck and let us know about your meeting! :D

I'm trying to get my classes at Mira Mesa if at all possible, I live a block away, but I do look at all of the local CCs. :D Thank you for the advice about transferring credits, hopefully that will help.

Are you from the San Diego area? Do you know anyone that has finished this program? If so, did they give you any feedback? I'm excited and nervous.....

Congrats on getting accepted! I am in the second cohort of this program, started in January. I know the first cohort is set to graduate in Oct. of this year...so they will be the first. I am 6 days away from the end of my first semester! Make sure you take a vacation or do something fun before you start because it will consume your life! It is challenging but manageable as long as you DO NOT procrastinate...there is no room for falling behind since it is so fast paced. Nervous & excited is just how I felt before starting and I feel like that about starting my second semester too! Best of luck & again...Congrats! :yeah:

At my meeting with the counselor they said its approximately $32K...but well worth the cost of a 2nd bachelor in only 14 months! And they are a non-profit, unlike National Univ. There is no wait list but they are impacted as far as applicants goes (more applicants than spots but that is every where!!) I suggest you call them and make an appointment to meet with a counselor, they are very informative. :)

NU is a non-profit school. Just because it costs more then public schools (government funded) does not mean it is for-profit. Takes a little bit more money to run a school when the government doesnt help out much :)

University of Phoenix...now THATS a for-profit school.

NU is a non-profit school. Just because it costs more then public schools (government funded) does not mean it is for-profit. Takes a little bit more money to run a school when the government doesnt help out much :)

Sorry, I mixed up the two. They didn't say which one wasn't non-profit, I just named out National because I remember how expensive it was. I completely forgot about UOP.

Yay! I have been searching for someone in the program on this board for some time! :bowingpur So, it is manageable, that is good to hear. I am soooo nervous! I do plan to take a weekend getaway before I start, I know life will be crazy for the next 14 months. So what skills have you learned in 1st semester? Do you like the program? If you could pick it again, would you? Has it been a challenge with the online portion? Have many people dropped from the program? Those are just a few questions but I am sure I'll have many more! :D Congrats to you too, you are on your way!!

congrats on finishing 1st semester ...I also have some questions for you please....how are the classes online? also how is your schedule ...meaning how many days ....how many hours a day do you attend clinicals etc ? I am asking because I will have 2 kids by the time I would start....so i need to know if it is doable

also did you have all your prereq done when your accepted? what is their criteria for accepting students?

sorry I have so many questions but I need to decide if I will go for it or not...I still have few prereq that I would need to go back and finish

this program has my eye for sure. like all pre-nursing students i have to finish pre-reqs prior to submitting my application. i'm looking at the 2nd degree program, this would be a career change for me, move from it to nursing.

if you don't mind my prying, what is the cost of the ou program? is there a wait list? there doesn't appear to be one mentioned on their site.

when i talked to the counselor, she said the program is about $32k, there is no waiting list, you would just submit your application and basically they look for the best candidate for the program and those who have completed whats required before starting the program.

i have an appointment with them on 5/26 to review my transcripts. in the mean time i'm trying to knock out the pre-reqs at the cc. that has been an event on its own. i tried signing up for anatomy, but wasn't allowed because i didn't have the pre-req for the class, so now i have to get a copy of my transcript to review with them. what a pain right, i just want to take the class and finding micro, physiology and anatomy with open seats is tough.

i'm also trying to finish my pre-req at southwestern college. i will be finishing chem 100 in about 2 weeks. i will be taking human anatomy in the summer, and taking micro, physicology fall semester. it's been tough but i do want to finish and get started on this program already. i've been rushing to finish b'coz i wanted to get into the program by january 2009, but i recently got an e-mail that said," they require all prerequisites to be completed at the time of application. students are no longer able to apply for the program in their last semester of their prerequisites. for example, if you will be enrolled in your remaining prerequisites during the fall semester of 2008, you would be eleigible to apply for the summer 2009 start date because all prerequisites would be completed by our march 1st deadline. " that kinda sucked coz i was hoping to finish all pre-req by dec, and start jan. then what if i have to wait even longer b'coz of those who are ahead of me or are better candidates.

congratulations!!! well my main question is, were you working at all???? i know i asked the counselor that and she didn't advice it but some people did work. did you work??? and how did that affect you from studying and going to clinicals?

i feel so upset now because i just checked my transcript and i took some of the prereq 7 yrs ago so by the time i will be ready i dont think they will accept these classes....anyone knows what is the time limit ?how old the classes could be?

Hi,

I would check with the counselors, have you met with any of them yet? I believe it is 5 years for some of the pre-reqs but I could be wrong. I would double check with them before starting another class! Good luck!! :heartbeat
