Anyone Else Applying For University of Maryland's NP Program 2010?

U.S.A. Maryland

Hi, I'm in the proces of completing my application for the University of Maryland's fall 2010 MSN Nurse Practitioner program, with a concentration in Acute Care pediatrics. Anyone else University of Maryland hopeful?

My friend who applied to the public health nursing master's program found out that she got accepted! I'm very happy for her, but I hope we all hear soon, too!

Wow - another week down and no status change! It makes me feel like it's never going to - or that my chances of getting in go down with every day that passes! haha - which I know doesn't make sense at all, but it's like it goes down 5% every day I don't hear! I hope you guys are staying sane and trying to limit your sims checking to a few times a day!

Its driving me INSANE!:uhoh3: I feel like we are the only masters' program at UMD that has not heard any news whatsoever.

i'm currently in the UMB BSN program and i'm just finishing up my 1st semester. we started school in jan 10, we got notified around thanxgiving time!!! yeah, we didn't have much time to get our CPR cards and get our immunizations all together. Don't be supprised if UMB takes a few more weeks to notify you. they aren't the most organized when it comes to selecting applicatants. Of course the order goes DNP, MSN, and the last to get notified is the BSN program. best of luck to you guys! i hope i'm in your situation in the next few years!

Okay another week mostly over - some of the BSN/CNL people heard they were waitlisted today. I think if it wasn't for you, xtclass08, I would think I was crazy and they just forgot to change my status. Have you heard anything Christine? We haven't heard from you in a while. What about you, all knowing Grey Lady , got any inside scoop for us :D ?

oh and okay also - I emailed admissions and Meaghan George emailed me back, but this is what I got:

"Hi Lielte,

We are sending out the next round of admission decision letters once we have heard confirmations back as to how many seats we still have available. We anticipate all admissions decisions will be sent out in the next 2 weeks. We do employ a waitlist and you will be notified if you are one it and if your wait list status changes."

So weird because my name is not Lielte. and weird because I didn't think grad programs did the whole "waitlist" thing like they do for undergrads. So I'm thinking that I might have gotten the form BSN/CNL email, instead of a reply to the email I wrote. But I'm not positive enough on this that it prevented me from having a bit of a "what's plan B if I don't get into school" meltdown yesterday. I much rather just know one way or the other than play this waiting game!

Blah, Maryland, why does this have to be so complicated? Also, seriously couldn't you have told us that we'd be hearing in the middle/end of April and then it's a happy surprise if it's before then - I would be much more sane right now if I hadn't been expecting something since the last week of March. :uhoh3: I've never felt so compelled to use a smiley face icon.

Not the best customer service, imo. Then again they don't even have an online or hybrid program option yet.

I haven't heard anything. Honestly, though, I will accept either decision, be it yay or nay. I've decided if I don't get into grad school, I really want to try for a ICU job and get some ICU experience. I have also considered getting my Nursing teaching certificate.

Oooh got another email back:

"Graduate program admissions committees are still making final decisions and also employ a waitlist."

Awwwesome.

Got my decision today....rejected. :( I'm trying to get my stuff together to apply to Marymount, from what I was told by their grad admissions rep, they don't start going through apps until June.

I just found out I was rejected too. Not so much feeling good about all this. I'm mostly relieved just to know what's going on, but man - I was really expecting to get in. Time to regroup.

It's weird, even though I said I'd be ok with being rejected, I still feel terrible. Oh well, I am applying for a PICU job this summer (I really want to work in an ICU!), and am also looking at other schools.

Yeah I'm kind of kicking myself for not applying more places originally. But it does look like Catholic and Marymount's admissions are still open. I think I'm feeling numb, which is transitioning into feeling crappy. I'm really curious to hear about the acceptance rate - I think we picked the wrong year to apply!
