  1. MD's BON is notoriously difficult, pretty much with everything they do. I don't think they do any sort of hard copy of your license - just the print out of the page from the website. Maybe you'd be able to get something like that from Nursys? If it's not too far for you, I would suggest going in person. Sucks, but it's the only way to get them to do anything!
  2. blah. Catholic is extremely expensive, as is Georgetown (who's admissions aren't even open yet). Yuck. Yeah, I'm not really sure why I didn't just send my stuff to Marymount in the first place - I think I was a bit too overconfident for MD. It's just frustrating though, as an undergraduate at MD they were SO intense about telling everyone to come back for grad school - it was like they were saying, oh of course you'll get in! And I had a fellow classmate get into the PNP program after only a few months as an RN last year! I wonder if I can get my crap together enough in time - thanks for the info about their admissions, it's very nice of you to pass on such prized info!
  3. Yeah I'm kind of kicking myself for not applying more places originally. But it does look like Catholic and Marymount's admissions are still open. I think I'm feeling numb, which is transitioning into feeling crappy. I'm really curious to hear about the acceptance rate - I think we picked the wrong year to apply!
  4. I just found out I was rejected too. Not so much feeling good about all this. I'm mostly relieved just to know what's going on, but man - I was really expecting to get in. Time to regroup.
  5. Oooh got another email back: "Graduate program admissions committees are still making final decisions and also employ a waitlist." Awwwesome.
  6. Okay another week mostly over - some of the BSN/CNL people heard they were waitlisted today. I think if it wasn't for you, xtclass08, I would think I was crazy and they just forgot to change my status. Have you heard anything Christine? We haven't heard from you in a while. What about you, all knowing Grey Lady , got any inside scoop for us ? oh and okay also - I emailed admissions and Meaghan George emailed me back, but this is what I got: "Hi Lielte, We are sending out the next round of admission decision letters once we have heard confirmations back as to how many seats we still have available. We anticipate all admissions decisions will be sent out in the next 2 weeks. We do employ a waitlist and you will be notified if you are one it and if your wait list status changes." So weird because my name is not Lielte. and weird because I didn't think grad programs did the whole "waitlist" thing like they do for undergrads. So I'm thinking that I might have gotten the form BSN/CNL email, instead of a reply to the email I wrote. But I'm not positive enough on this that it prevented me from having a bit of a "what's plan B if I don't get into school" meltdown yesterday. I much rather just know one way or the other than play this waiting game! Blah, Maryland, why does this have to be so complicated? Also, seriously couldn't you have told us that we'd be hearing in the middle/end of April and then it's a happy surprise if it's before then - I would be much more sane right now if I hadn't been expecting something since the last week of March. I've never felt so compelled to use a smiley face icon.
  7. Holy Cross is hiring! Especially in the competitive areas of Mother/Baby, Peds, and L&D! Come one, come all!
  8. Wow - another week down and no status change! It makes me feel like it's never going to - or that my chances of getting in go down with every day that passes! haha - which I know doesn't make sense at all, but it's like it goes down 5% every day I don't hear! I hope you guys are staying sane and trying to limit your sims checking to a few times a day!
  9. My friend who applied to the public health nursing master's program found out that she got accepted! I'm very happy for her, but I hope we all hear soon, too!
  10. Okay - it's April 1st and I'm dying to hear! Has anyone heard anything?
  11. Not that I know of... but the only other person I know of who applied is going to for the Community/Public Health program. In the BSN/CNL thread, someone was reporting that the committees are still meeting Monday and Tuesday this week, so there won't be any decisions until after then. I want to know so badly!!!
  12. hey guys! I'm applying too for the Fall 2010 FNP program - it looks like from the BSN/CNL thread that people are talking about hearing somewhere around April 1st - or the week before. I believe they have Spring Break this week, so probably no news this week. My birthday is the 27th, so that'd be a super sweet birthday present! Mine has also said "committee ready" since mid-Feb or so. I'm trying to figure out the work thing during school, too - I'm not so sure about staying at my current job, but working PRN like two shifts a month might be solid. Mostly I'm hoping for a TA position or a really solid scholarship. One of my friends is now in the PNP program part-time and she has told me numerous times that there's a good amount of money for students going back full time. So let's hope that's true! Good luck, everyone!
  13. Has anyone else out there applied for Maryland's FNP program, set to start in Fall 2010? I saw the BSN/CNL applicants have a thread, so I thought we should have one too! I'm very curious as to when we'll be hearing back, my best guess is by April 1st, since Nov. 1st seemed like the contact date for last semester's applicants. I'm also hoping someone (GreyLady, perhaps ) knows if they're planning on offering more classes at the Shade Grove campus - I'm coming from the DC area and it would be fantastic if I could take more of the core classes down here! Thanks so much and good luck to everyone who is applying for school!
  14. Don't forget Holy Cross in Silver Spring MD - just right over the DC line and right off the beltway - I live in DC and work at HC. I'm pretty sure they still have new grad positions on their website www.holycrosshealth.org. Good luck!!
  15. I don't know why, but somehow looking at these numbers/recommendations always gives me hope of what my work could be like! I'm a new-ish grad (started work in Feb.) and on our Postpartum Unit at night we rarely have less than 5 couples, regardless of complications. Basically 5 or 6 couples is a dream night that happens maybe a third of the time, but getting 7-8 couples is more of the reality most of the times. Now I'm definitely coming off of one of the worst nights ever, but I feel like I needed to just vent and get some reassurance that I'm not crazy. Last night was: 8 couples total, 2 moms on triple antibiotics, 2 fresh c-sections, baby under the lights, mom who had 2500 EBL and had been transfused before coming up, needy teen moms, needy breastfeeding moms, etc. It was out of control. Even with the ample help of my charge and fellow nurses, I still came no where close to doing everything that these patients needed. Last night wasn't a rare occurrence, just last week my fellow new grad was stuck with 9 couples. 9! 18 patients to chart on! We also never have a nurse in the nursery, only a nursery tech, so even if your babies are in the nursery, you're still fully responsible for the care excluding bottles and diaper changes. I feel like management is aware of the issues here and we're definitely a very busy hospital (average 24 births in 24 hours, 68 bed postpartum unit that is full at least half the time), but I feel like this is just plain unsafe. Does anyone have ideas about how to approach this? I have my 6 month evaluation coming up soon, and I definitely want to talk to my manager about some of my concerns - I was thinking of trying to keep a record of how many patients I have each night, and how the night goes in general to get a nice objective view of things. I think our main problem is that we don't really have a float pool - it's crazy, if two people call out sick, the only thing the charge nurses can do is beg the regular nurses to take overtime, which people aren't really that fond of doing. There needs to be an emergency back-up plan. Or just better staffing in general. Thanks for letting me vent! Here's hoping for a much better night on Monday.
