Anyone else apply to Bellevue or Seattle Central??

I applied to Bellevue (feb 7) and Seattle Central College (apr 1). Did anyone else apply to these schools? I applied to SCC 2 minutes after the application period opened, so I'm crossing my fingers for that slot! Cebrina said I should be good to go!

Back up schools are Renton and Highline, as their Fall apps aren't due until June.

Anyone joined the accelerated BSN with BC or SCC/UW??

I got the email of acceptance into Seattle Central College's RN Program this morning!! Hope everyone else who applied got in, as well!

cupkate255: I think I read in another post that you were on the Bellevue wait list. If this is true, what # are you? And if you get into Bellevue have you decided which school you will go to? (Seattle Central or Bellevue)

I've already accepted admission from Seattle Central. They asked us to respond same day as acceptance letter. I thought I really wanted Bellevue until I read their reviews. Seattle Central has amazing NCLEX scores and I get 50% off tuition (Vet) plus it's within the Seattle Colleges so my credits transfer without paying transcript fees (did pre reqs at South Seattle). It's just a better fit for me. SCC ranks above Seattle U even!

I would love to hear how your experience has been so far at SCC? I currently waiting to hear back as to whether or not I got in for Fall 2015.

Well, it's very disorganized to say the least! lol. We had a HORRIBLE instructor for our 1st quarter (she dropped everyone's GPA, 50% of us barely passed), but now that's she's gone... it's gotten a tad better. There is a new dean, as well as a new nursing coordinator (assistant to Dean), and there are new instructors, too. A whole lot of turnover makes for a crazy first year for us!

The instructors are nice, but it's a LOT of material to cover in short amounts of time. You only have classes Mon/Tues for 2-4 hours and a lab every other week or so on Wednesdays. Exams are every other week, and when clinicals start, you have those 1-2 days a week, too. Moral of the story...STUDY every chance you get. All of us study all day on weekends and about 3 hours a weekday (at least). It can get intense. Just form a good study plan (with study groups on weekends) and you'll make it! We were getting study guides (direction) from the instructors at first, but they've recently stopped that. You have to get a 2.0 in each class to pass (which normally is easy to do, but here at SCC it's equivilent to a 77%) and the grading scale it skewed to the middle, vs skewed up (don't ask, we all HATE this, and have tried explaining that an 84% at UW = a 3.0 but here at SCC it's a 2.7....to no avail).

The one good thing about the program is our clinical sites. We love them. We really learn a lot, (which helps us learn what we weren't taught in class).

Any specific questions you had??

@cupkate255

Did you or anyone you know work during the nursing program? I am waiting to find out if I have been accepted, and it looks like I might have to work at least 30hrs a week, but I don't know how realistic that idea is... Also, when did you get your schedule and how far in advance? I'm anxious to see what I'll be in for (provided I get accepted).

I work part time as do a number of my classmates. I personally work less than 20 hours a week and more than that feels impossible despite having a wonderful, laid back job. We found out schedules over a month in advance both quarters.

I've worked the entire way through....but I have a really laid back job that I can study at if need be. I work 20 hours a week, I don't know how 30 hrs would go. That's kind of pushing it. You'd have to be REALLY good at time management and that would make for a lot of late nights. If you have the motivation and determination, I say go for it. But if you start to feel overwhelmed, cut back on work hours and apply for scholarships or financial aid to offset. I'd say 40% of us work, but FT jobs have killed some people (failing out, dropping out, or having to cut back on work). There are times I even had to call out sick just to cram for a test....everyone does what they have to to make it through.

For the first two quarters, we got our schedules about a month ahead. For this last quarter, due to clinical site issues, we didn't get them until a week before classes started. We were assured that won't happen again. :) Like I said before, classes are 8-12 Mondays and 9-11 Tuesdays. With labs on some Wednesdays 8-12. When clinicals start, those days/hours vary according to site. So far, no weekends. (I think only 2nd years get weekends)

Thanks everyone for all the information! I just got my acceptance letter today! I'm going to start out working full time, and my job will let me reduce my hours as needed. :)

What exactly is the application process like? Is it all online and you have all your stuff uploaded and hit send at noon on the due date? I know its first come first serve so I want to make sure I know what to expect.

Thanks!

Yep, that's exactly how it works! I applied at 12:05pm! You'll want to be sitting there right at noon on the app date and hit refresh until it lets you!! haha.

I thought so! Are you able to have everything entered and ready to go before so that all you have to do is hit send?
