  1. Yep, that's exactly how it works! I applied at 12:05pm! You'll want to be sitting there right at noon on the app date and hit refresh until it lets you!! haha.
  2. I've worked the entire way through....but I have a really laid back job that I can study at if need be. I work 20 hours a week, I don't know how 30 hrs would go. That's kind of pushing it. You'd have to be REALLY good at time management and that would make for a lot of late nights. If you have the motivation and determination, I say go for it. But if you start to feel overwhelmed, cut back on work hours and apply for scholarships or financial aid to offset. I'd say 40% of us work, but FT jobs have killed some people (failing out, dropping out, or having to cut back on work). There are times I even had to call out sick just to cram for a test....everyone does what they have to to make it through. For the first two quarters, we got our schedules about a month ahead. For this last quarter, due to clinical site issues, we didn't get them until a week before classes started. We were assured that won't happen again. :) Like I said before, classes are 8-12 Mondays and 9-11 Tuesdays. With labs on some Wednesdays 8-12. When clinicals start, those days/hours vary according to site. So far, no weekends. (I think only 2nd years get weekends)
  3. @ StaceyAnn86 Well, it's very disorganized to say the least! lol. We had a HORRIBLE instructor for our 1st quarter (she dropped everyone's GPA, 50% of us barely passed), but now that's she's gone... it's gotten a tad better. There is a new dean, as well as a new nursing coordinator (assistant to Dean), and there are new instructors, too. A whole lot of turnover makes for a crazy first year for us! The instructors are nice, but it's a LOT of material to cover in short amounts of time. You only have classes Mon/Tues for 2-4 hours and a lab every other week or so on Wednesdays. Exams are every other week, and when clinicals start, you have those 1-2 days a week, too. Moral of the story...STUDY every chance you get. All of us study all day on weekends and about 3 hours a weekday (at least). It can get intense. Just form a good study plan (with study groups on weekends) and you'll make it! We were getting study guides (direction) from the instructors at first, but they've recently stopped that. You have to get a 2.0 in each class to pass (which normally is easy to do, but here at SCC it's equivilent to a 77%) and the grading scale it skewed to the middle, vs skewed up (don't ask, we all HATE this, and have tried explaining that an 84% at UW = a 3.0 but here at SCC it's a 2.7....to no avail). The one good thing about the program is our clinical sites. We love them. We really learn a lot, (which helps us learn what we weren't taught in class). Any specific questions you had??
  4. Yep I "finally" got a response from Kim about what I needed to buy. I ordered a couple similar online and the "correct" pair from Life. They must have swapped to a cheaper brand, because you're right...$50 isn't so bad. I'm bringing the book Kim had us read, as well as my study guide for it and med dictionary; I mean, there's no way we can cram all of those books in our backpacks! :)
  5. Also, of course the day Orientation is, I get sick Can anyone fill me in on what went on? IE any new info we received? Cebrina says she will let the few of us that missed it make up the stuff we need to, I'm just curious about where to buy scrubs/extra things we need and anything else needed prior to 9/22. Thanks!!!! -Kate
  6. Minza has been all over the place in my emails with her. She will give some people information, and then not others. I get a lot further when I talk with Cebrina. I even asked Minza for the book lists and if I could use the previous edition study guide, to which she responded "Ask the Dean at Orientation." I think because she is new, she doesn't have know a whole lot of the information we need. It's getting to be too last minute to order books for cheaper (ebay, etc) so I just went ahead and grabbed what was told to me by former ADN's in the program. As far as scrubs, it's going to be about $100 I hear. You need this specific "Dove" brand and they aren't cheap. However, former students tend to sell theirs back, so there's always that option. I don't know how people who don't work can afford all of these last minute costs! And not getting us the list of materials in a timely manner has set us all back when we could have gotten cheaper books/scrubs/etc. Hopefully the program is a little better organized. Okay...done with my rant :) Who is down to set up a study group?? Is anyone traveling from Renton/Eastside and would maybe want to carpool?? Btw...my name is Kate :) What is everyone else's name? :)
  7. Mine says "try again," as well. I think people that haven't previously gone to SSC are going to keep running into this problem until we are entered in system correctly. Have you emailed Cebrina?
  8. Stupid question....but what color are the scrubs we need to buy? I have a TON and am wondering if I even need to be on the look out for a pair? I was told a royal blue by someone...is that correct? Also, what books were you guys using? Trying to get the jump on cheaper ones!!
  9. I'm guessing by now you all got the emails from Cebrina (last Friday, 5/23)? It looks like I was just quick enough to grab a morning cohort spot, did anyone else?? I chatted with Cebrina about how classes will work, and she said 1st quarter we have class on Mon & Tue, then one lab day. THAT'S IT! Starting us out easy. Plus, if you've taken any of the coreqs (statistics, nutrition, developmental psych etc) then you'll be taking even LESS credits per quarter. As it looks, since I've already taken quite a few of these, I'm at 10 credits per quarter for the first year. So glad for that...because it means I can still work evenings the first year. Anyone else going to attempt working FT?
  10. I've already accepted admission from Seattle Central. They asked us to respond same day as acceptance letter. I thought I really wanted Bellevue until I read their reviews. Seattle Central has amazing NCLEX scores and I get 50% off tuition (Vet) plus it's within the Seattle Colleges so my credits transfer without paying transcript fees (did pre reqs at South Seattle). It's just a better fit for me. SCC ranks above Seattle U even!
  11. I was like 30 something on BC waitlist. Seattle Central was my school of choice, as veterans get 50% off tuition there. NO student loans for me! (Hopefully until MSN)
  12. I don't However...definitely email Cebrina about not getting an email. I've already emailed her twice since getting acceptance email and she responded pretty quickly. Were all your pre reqs met? And you sent her your CNA license #? [email protected]
  13. I got in to Seattle Central!! Anyone else hear back on their schools?? I know letters to both BC & Seattle Central were sent out yesterday and today :)
  14. Was bumped to waitlist at BC....but I got into Seattle Central (school I wanted) so I'm excited about that for sure!! Hope everyone else got in to their school of choice, as well!!!
  15. I got my letter (email) of acceptance to SCC today!! Anyone else get theirs??
