Hi,

I just dropped off my application for the Spring 2013 BSN program at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, Ca. Anyone else want to wait with me? I am currently taking 4 courses in progress until mid December! I am so nervous !!!

I lived in the bay. I rented a studio then I moved in to an apartment with my mom for my last year. I live in Sacramento now I personally wouldn't commute because I'm not a morning person but I had a classmate that commuted from Tracy and my mom lives in Sac with me and she works in SF and commutes so it's possible! For my first year I took BART and the bus and as a SMU student you get discounted BART tickets and AC Transit passes. My second year I got a car and drove. You don't get free parking however, I was able to. For those that qualify for work study and you have TIME to work I highly reccomend contacting the Volunteer Dept. of Alta Bates. As a SMU student volunteer you also get paid and $12/hour! You only get to work in the Gift Shop or Family Resource Center but it was amazing and worth it and it's only a 4 hour shift. At the Gift Shop you get to know a lot of the staff especially the Nurse Managers. You also get a discount in the hospital cafeteria, free parking pass, and experience for your resume. Plus, it's right there on campus. But like I said it's only if you can work! I know SMU staff will discourage working during nursing school, but some of us need to.

Thanks for the advice! Does your mom drive? I was thinking of driving to WC then hoping on BART or using a vanpool.

Thanks Marykaydarling for the info on that date!

Yes she does drive!

Wow that's a long drive! & No problem... Like I said, I'll give you guys more info. as it comes!

yea i am 4th on the wait list. I am wondering the same thing as well, don't know what the chances are :(

I think you have a really good chance saka...I'm pretty sure someone who was number 12 on the list for a previous semester got in...I remember reading it on here in another thread.

Hi Kenderella89,

What was your class/clinical schedule like? How many times a week did you have to go to campus?

We're u accepted hlr7?

@rachelynn

haven't heard anything yet. :banghead:

so scared.

Going to PM you!

It varies by semester. 1st semester I think it was 4 days a week: 3 days of class and one day of clinical. 2nd semester it was a full week: 3 days of class including lab and 2 days of clinical. 3rd semester is special because you have 5 week clinical rotations with 2 days a week of clinical time. The last semester it was 2 days of classes and 1 day of clinical for community health but you also have preceptorship which is any day (including weekends) that you don't have class or clinical.
