has anyone done self preparation n got into nursing program

Published

Hi, i am doing a self study at home to get into Practical nursing program for May 2013 intake in Canada.I cannot afford to go to college for pre-reqs as i have to work. Not having higher level of science education i am currently enrolled into an online program.I was just wondering if anybody had done self preparation and got into nursing program.I would appreciate,if you can share how you made it.Also, since i am doing my science and math credit courses,is there anything other than these that i need to prepare? i know i have health aptitude test as well to prepare for.

I would be grateful for the answers.

As long as the online courses your are taking will be accepted that will be fine. You should check with them first or you will be wasting your time.If you check with he PN program you want to take they will tell you what you need to take first. You really need to look into it before you start taking classes.Who are you taking the online courses with?

Guide books for what?

Does the program you are applying to accept credits from ilc? Have you checked on the prerequisites.

I took my PN program 6 years ago and I didn't have to take a health aptitude test.

health aptitude test is mandatory and is a part of admission process these days.I was referring to health aptitude guide books inorder to prepare for the test.I had spoken with a guidance counsellor once and he said i can do that through ilc..further i did not do any research on this but it's a good point that you brought up. Thanks again for your reply

As long as the program says courses from ilc is ok then you should be fine.Maybe the school could also provide you with the guide book. I would ask. i have seen one before but I don't know where it came from.I think that the girl that had it got it from the school.

Thanks, Loriangel14 for the information. i will check the school for the book.

I started my first year of PN school during my last year of high school, through a vo-tech program. Had a pre-test which was basically just common sense and a bit of math, but then again, we're talking about back in 1987 so I'm sure things have changed quite a bit. Most schools will give you a practice test if you ask for it. Or talk to someone who has already been accepted to that particular program. A couple of the aides where I work are either in, or applying to, LPN programs and they were given practice tests by the schools. Good luck to you!

JenLPN001, thank you so much for the information. Take Care!
