Hello Everyone!
I've just received my acceptance into Monroe College's Progressive Nursing Program for the Winter semester! So I just figured id make a thread for any other people who are currently attending or have recently gotten accepted into the program.
For those of your currently attending, how is it going so far?
Is there anything I should know before the semester starts?
Id love to hear how everyone is doing and possibly get to know my fellow nursing students!
Thanks! I still can not believe it. I have to do Microbiology, which I am thinking about doing with Straighterline. I am a transfer student and do not have any Pell grants, therefore I am trying to keep the cost low. Also I have not been assigned an advisor, I guess once I speak with Financial Aid. BTW, how did you get in touch with Financial Aid?
I'm sure you were super shocked ?
I've actually never heard of Straighterline, do you know if Monroe will accept credits from there? I'm also looking to bring down the cost, if possible.
My advisor was the woman whoe helped me with my application process; I didn't really know she was my advisor until I got my acceptance and saw that she was Cc'd on the email as well (as my advisor).
After my acceptance I just emailed her asking about connecting with financial aid, and she told me that I should be connected with someone sometime this week.
I think you should probably contact Ms. Nieves about getting connected with a financial aid advisor.
Here's her email: [email protected]. Hopefully she can help you out!
Ill keep you updated on what happens!
Yes! Monroe college accepts their credits its ACE credits, I learned about straighterline from someone at Monroe, also when you go on straighterline website Monroe college is listed as one of the schools that accepts the credit. I just do not want to take Micro with any core nursing courses. I am so grateful for this opportunity, and I want to make sure I do my best.
As far as my email, no one was cc'd on it(everything just seem to happen overnight), I will contact her tomorrow, she was actually the person who sent the acceptance email.
I am just concern about working, since I do not get Pell or Tap, I do not want to take out a ton of loans, but it was definitely advised for me not work. Since the program is intensive.
I checked the courses accepted by Monroe from Straighterline, but microbio doesn't seem listed as an accepted course. Id love to take the course before our semester starts, but I am unsure if microbio in particular will transfer over ? Would you happen to know if its accepted for sure? This is the list of courses accepted by Monroe:

I'm also doing my best to avoid working as well, Im hoping I have enough saved up to get me through the bulk of the program (hopefully all of it LOL). Im sure it'll be tough but its worth it right? You could also look into applying for work study if you find that you NEED to work. That way you'd at least be on the campus and it won't be a super demanding job.
Guess I will be taking Micro with Monroe (so sad), I spoke to the advisor and she also stated that Microbiology is not one of the accepted credits. I rather not do work study. I think I am going to work the night shift on my unit, plus I get a discount with my job and my union will cover my tuition if I work.
Even though I do not want to take out a ton of loans, if I can not handle the load I will reduce my work hours or resign, which would leave me no choice since those two options I would not qualify for tuition vouchers (from my union) . Just was trying to keep my foot in the hospital setting.
I am just purchasing certain items now, that I am going to need for school, because January 8 will be here sooner than we think.

So long as you've gotten a score of at least "proficient" you should be in the green. I had a proficient score myself, but ofc having a competitive GPA always helps too! Good luck!
