I have all the books but haven't taken any of the test yet- I only have to take Nursing 1-8 and 2 science tests then the clinical- its just a point of starting it. Any advice- are the test CLEPS really hard? Has anyone completed this yet?:nurse:

I just looked at the paper that they gave me last year, and it clearly states exam fees not included! My price was almost $11,000 and they have raised their prices,so I don't see how exam fees would be in there!

Be vary carefull with TCN they will say anything to make a sale.I did not go with them and found their sales people very dishonest.

You do not need to go through them, but if you want a publishing company,Chancellors is cheaper and I love their study guides, and you can always get them on Ebay!Hope this helps.:D

I also would like to add that when I called EC directly, I was told most exams cost $205 and for each credit earned, you have to pay $200 per credit, therefore, each "class" is $805. (if it is a three credit class)

When talking to the College Network, they say this is not true and have to just pay enrollment fee and exam fees.

UGH, I hate NOT to the right info especially when I am talking to the source,

So can anyone who has went through this clarify? Thank you, :D

These are not "classes" you study on your own and then you take one exam for each subject.Exams cost between $235 for a 3 credit exam to $335 for a 6 credit exam.

You study at your own pace and when you feel you are ready you take the exam.A 3 credit class will cost $235 not $805.:D

If your talking about the Associates degree in Nursing then you are mistaken. The cost for each exam is $235 under the new curriculum as of July 1st 2008.

Thats is 8 test X $235 =$1880.

You study on your own and take the test at person vue.

I am under the new curriculum for the RN and my education will be right at $6900 going directly through EC and not college network. I don't understand why it is so difficult for people to understand that they will overpay if they sign through college network to get the EC degree. If you download the Nursing Catalog on EC website, it will spell out all the fees.

I get it now, thanks. But I need the general education classes so I need 14 exams all together. Can I CLEP the general education ones at a community college and than apply those to Excelsior and than sign up at that point?

On EC website, I am not seeing much on the general education credits and how to go about obtaining them.

To add.....TCN tells people that it is cheaper to go through them than it is to go through Excelsior, I think thats why lots of people are confused......

If your EC fees/enrollment/exams are included in the price you're paying to TCN, then you are FINANCING your EC fees/enrollment/exams through TCN. TCN and EC do NOT have a relationship (on the contrary -- EC warns against third-party publishers), and monies must still be paid to EC in order for you to be an EC student.

TCN does not grant a degree. You cannot graduate from EC without going through EC, period. So if you are buying study guides from TCN, then you are ADDING TO THE COST OF EC. Ergo, it is MORE EXPENSIVE when you pile TCN on the top!

Sorry, I'm tired/exhausted and punchy. I don't mean to sound like I'm yelling. I probably shouldn't even be posting right now! LOL

Which classes do you need? You can CLEP many classes, but there are a few CLEPs that I don't think EC accepts. You should check with EC before taking a CLEP, just to be sure.

I did two CLEP exams for EC -- Introductory Sociology, and Human Growth & Development (accepted in place of Lifespan Developmental Psychology).

Actually, I have completed all required classes. All I need to do is the nursing part from LPN/RN.

I need all of the general education. I am calling Excelsior tomorrow, I want to know how it works. What I want to know, do I have to pay the Excelsior the annual fee and all while doing just the general education?

Or do I just pay the exams myself, schedule my own test date at a Pearson-Vue and get the credits and than when I am done with all of the general education credits I am assuming thats when I enroll with Excelsior?

Thanks, Lunah! You have helped alot.

TCN is going to LPN schools and telling students that it is cheaper to go through them than with Excelsior, so I think that since the schools are allowing it, it just makes the students trust it, if the school is allowing them to come.

I am happy to be on this site, with out this site, I would not know anything:D

You don't have to register if you're doing the gen ed stuff first ... you would also be able to take the first nursing exam (Essentials of Nursing Care: Health Safety) without registering, and you'll probably be able to skip the second exam (Essentials of Nursing Care: Health Differences) because you're an LPN. :) So in theory, you can work on the gen eds and get those done, then do the first nursing exam before you even have to enroll.

It really frosts my wheaties that TCN deceives people like that.

I am SO excited!! So I just call a Pearson Vue testing center and I can schedule my 1st test??

Thanks for the studygroup 101 tip. Where to get the Chancellors?

Also, so with the general education, Excelsior does not have the free study guides?

Depends on which test you're doing. If it's an EC exam, then you have to pay EC and register with Pearson Vue -- there is usually about a day between the time you pay for the EC exam and the time that Pearson will recognize you in their system. But you do have to pay the $$ first. ;)

I bought all my Chancellor's guides used on eBay.

EC only has exam content guides for exams that are EC exams, not for every subject.

I hope this makes sense -- I just got up and haven't had coffeeeeeee! :)
