anyone considering going back to school to become an RN?

Nurses LPN/LVN

Hello. I was just wondering if anyone was considering going back to school and becoming an RN. If so how are you going to go about doing it. A bridge program? If so which one do you have in mind. Just curious. Thanks.

Uh oh. I didn't realize that the bridge program requires experience. I was going to do my LPN this fall and then go straight into RN school the following fall. Do your clinical hours during the LPN program count for anything?

Not all bridge programs require experience. And one, Exselcior requires any LPN with more than 5 years experience to retake Fundamentals 1! Like I haven't been doing it for almost 30 years!

Just out of curiosity, I took one of the fundamentals 1 practice tests, nailed it first try. not a single question wrong, but.... they would require me to retake the test? Bull hockey!

I am still looking for that school that advertised on this site some time ago. They are based in Utah (they graduate you from Excelsior, but help you prepare for you tests and provide a weekend practice skills lab)

A friend of mine told me about them, even emailed me info; I lost it when I let my son and some friends use my PC (they were short one for the group here to play some game online).

Boy, did they wreck havok on my PC!

Anyway, I simply wiped my hard drive and started over. I kept everything of importance except that particular folder! DAH!!!!

Please, if anyone knows about this school, I would surely apreciate it. I keep following every link I run into for LPN - ASN programs but can't find it.

i have been an lpn almost 20 yr, and i am working on my rn with the college network. they send you the study guides, you study, then you take the test. you study and take the tests at your pace when your ready, and not before. when you complete all the courses, ( i only have 10 courses to go) you do your clinical in a 2 1/2 day weekend, then get ready for state boards, and that's it! the reason i only have 10 courses to go, is that i got most of my core at the local university here. after you get your core out of the way, you have nursing concepts 1-6, then foundations of professional practice, and that's if. they also have a video to help you get ready for your clinical, and if your not comfortable after seeing the video, that actually have a "clinical boot camp"! you even have a program advisor to help and guide you along the way. i really am glad i chose this direction to get to my rn. i have know several nurses that took this route and they are now rn's!:nurse:

i graduated in december and will be working evening shift. i'm signing up tuesday with college network. are you happy with them and do you feel that it's worth the expense? how are the study guides?

I am currently enrolled in Excelsior, LPN to RN program.

Im thinking of going this route, Im so unsure. Can U let me know what U think of it? Are U still doing the program? Thanx

Specializes in LTC, ER.

if you are going to sign with them, be very certain that you want to go the distance learning route. i signed on and then found that i didn't really have the discipline to do total self study. by the time i realized this it was too late to get out of the contract. also, excelsior doesn't recommend that you go through those other companies, i think you may be able to get study guides through excelsior. it ended up being a very expensive lesson, i was paying on the college network even after i had graduated from a traditional bridge program.

Hi Fellow Nurses,

I have been an LPN for almost 4 years with the last year in a hospital ortho unit, I feel now I am ready to go on. I now have a realistic view of RNs in a hospital setting. They do have so much responsibility and I needed to see what I was in for before I went back. Anyway I need to take 3 prereqs(algebra, biology and chem) to get into the hospital RN program. The prereqs I can take through a home correspondence course thourgh a well known local college. I think I have take the SATS to get in though also, this scares me because my math skills beyond what I do for meds really suck! So any advice on this test would be great! I guess I have to get one of those SAT books.

Take care,

minnib

I am thinking about going back. I am trying to decided on the What, when and where. It is such a big decision.

I graduated in December 2004 and I am going back for my RN degree. I am finishing up my pre-reqs for the RN program. I am going to go ahead and try to get it out of the way while I still have the enthusiasm and the drive. I should be finished hopefully by December 2006.

I didn't find anything on pre-reqs on the Ecxelsior web site. Can anyone please tell me, which pre-reqs they require and if they provide them also? ....Meaning, can I take them trough them on-line or do I have to look somewhere else? And secondly, are they required PRIOR to Admission into the ADN course or can I start taking them AFTER?
