Anyone applying to Yale GEPN program for Fall 2009?

Published

Hi,

Since there was a very extensive thread last year about application process to Yale, I thought I would start a new thread for 2009 hopefuls. I am working on my application and wanted to know who else chose Yale as one of their options. What program? How is the application process going? Essay writing? Any anxieties? I am applying to the Adult Advanced Practice Nursing but still deciding on the specialty. The hardest part for me is the essay writing as English is not my first language, but I have been working on it for some time now and getting close to finishing the final version. Anyone else wants to share?

Yes, I second that! It's hard to focus when a life decision is looming..

On a side note - is there any way for the Boston ppl to get a side convo going? I'm still interested in figuring out when/where to meet up but feel bad dominating this thread.

definitely! although for me it's I got in somewhere so there's an end in sight for working in the lab! (I really don't like the project I'm working on) I feel like I'm mentally done but still have a couple more months

seriously you can't lose with any of these programs. direct entry programs are extremely competitive and in the end we all come out as NPs, its a win win. as long as you get in somewhere, you can't lose

i totally agree. anyone know how to start it??? haha.

ps- jumbolove = tufts??

Does anybody else change her mind daily? Today, I'm in love with Yale...they are letting me do the combined A/GNP (though I was admitted for GNP) now, which makes it seem like a done deal. I've been perusing JHU SON's faculty pages, and they really don't seem to have anyone doing much in gerontology...However, if you are interested in lactation or the psychology of domestic abuse victims, it seems to be a great school. Ugh. I'm visiting Baltimore next week, so we'll see how it is in person. But Yale...how do you say no to a nursing school with such history and that is so innovative? I went to a large school undergrad (UCLA) and I feel like JHU is more of that bureaucracy. I like that at Yale it's more personalized...

Decisions, decisions...

I'm not working right now (we just moved back to Oregon to live with family--since I wasn't sure if I'd be starting school in May or August--and my husband hated his job and wanted to try to prepare himself for freelance work. So not paying rent is nice...) I'm getting nothing done. I find myself talking my options over in my mind or with my mother-in-law or with my mom on the phone or with my best friend...and then I check this message board. And then I write some emails. Or I write messages on facebook. I don't have anything to do (other than read and study and unpack...I've been here for three weeks and feel paralyzed with choices), and yet I get nothing done. I can only imagine if I were at work...At least, you'll all be quitting soon enough!

Did anyone apply to med school along with this program? I'm interested in seeing if others are making the choice between NP school and Med school.

kimiij - I PM'ed you, just in case you did not see it (was my first time using a PM, so I'm not sure how obvious it is when you receive one). Hope to hear from you!

even though i have no life and post on this thing like no other, i don't know how to start a new thread either! haha

Yes! I change my mind daily between Yale and JHU. They both are fantastic programs and have their individual strengths. I try to remind myself that this decision is so tough because they are such great programs. I'm thinking the open house at JHU next week will answer a lot of lingering questions too (such as, 'can I survive and enjoy Baltimore??).

And yes, jumbolove = Tufts. Jumbo pride! haha.

I tried to start a new thread for the Boston folks.. Does this link work?

jnd, yes I am.. Wait I think I know who you are (you said you were quitting the class if you got into Yale, right?) Small world!

haha, yes it is a small world. Now I'm not sure if I'm going to choose yale; so as of now, i'm still in the class and i still don't have a book! (whoops). and your boston thread worked...so hopefully the other Bostonians see it...
