  1. Re: Baltimore - what are your initial impressions? I've never been but will be heading down tonight. When I called my hotel (which is near the Inner Harbor, I thought a good place to be) the woman recommended that I not walk at night, even the two blocks from the light rail. Awesome! Is it really that dangerous? As far as Yale's finaid, here are my notes from interview day: - $20,500 Stafford - $6,000 Perkins (which you can work off) - $1,500 student nursing loan -- these are all the maximum amounts For the leftover amount a certain percentage will be a school scholarship with the average amount being $5,000 (highest amount this past year was $8,000), then we are left to get grad plus and private student loans on our own (or other scholarships of course). Basically total expenses including living costs were ~160K but most students come out with about $100K in debt. At least that's what I wrote down.. We'll see what Yale decides for us later this week!
  2. Burger King sounds good to me. Looks like there will be 5 of us, right?
  3. 6 works for me too.
  4. Sunday sounds good to me.
  5. I can usually do Tuesdays but this upcoming one (the 24th) doesn't work for me Are we looking at future possible dates or just this upcoming week? I'm thinking the sooner we can meet the better.. what do you all think?
  6. I can do Wednesday. Where are all the Boston kiddos??
  7. jnd, yes I am.. Wait I think I know who you are (you said you were quitting the class if you got into Yale, right?) Small world!
  8. https://allnurses.com/pre-nursing-student/boston-gathering-yale-371991.html#post3452149 I tried to start a new thread for the Boston folks.. Does this link work?
  9. Hey kids! I am trying to start a separate thread to discuss those in Boston who are considering Yale GEPN for 2009 to get together.. What are people thinking on when/where to gather?
  10. Yes! I change my mind daily between Yale and JHU. They both are fantastic programs and have their individual strengths. I try to remind myself that this decision is so tough because they are such great programs. I'm thinking the open house at JHU next week will answer a lot of lingering questions too (such as, 'can I survive and enjoy Baltimore??). And yes, jumbolove = Tufts. Jumbo pride! haha.
  11. Yes, I second that! It's hard to focus when a life decision is looming.. On a side note - is there any way for the Boston ppl to get a side convo going? I'm still interested in figuring out when/where to meet up but feel bad dominating this thread.
  12. I'd love to join somewhere downtown too! Although I just realized I can't make the 24th (I read the original message too quickly to notice the date I guess - I saw a Boston meeting opportunity and got excited. haha). Are you guys firm on that date? I don't want to change location and date - that's asking a lot but obviously brainstorming with people in the same position would be great!
  13. Ooo I'm in Boston but unfortunately can't get myself to Wellesley. If you guys end up doing another get together somewhere in the city (= T accessible) I'd definitely be game!
  14. During our lunch with second year students (so they were in their first specialty year) they too said they were only eligible to sit for the NCLEX once they got to their second year. I can't remember if they named January specifically but I do recall them confirming they had to wait until their second year. None of them had taken the NCLEX yet so if you heard January that may very well be correct! And yes, I will give feedback on JHU's Accepted Students day! I am still working on my pro/con list for both schools but I think seeing Hopkins in person will give me more perspective (since visiting Yale definitely did).
  15. I'm in the same boat as well debating between these two schools! Are you going to the visitor's day at Hopkins on 2/27? Visiting Yale for the interview day was eye opening and made me love the program even more, but maybe a visit to JHU will help give you more information? Everyone says go with whatever is the best fit however you define that, so I think if you love both programs you can't make a wrong decision. Also, I am originally from CT so I have to throw it out there that NYC isn't too far away from New Haven (maybe an hour?) especially by train, so Biddy, if your husband is worried about job opportunities realize that NY may have more options than just New Haven. Just a reminder!
