Anyone applying to Texas Tech's program, specifically the 2nd degree Austin program? What is your work experience? What prereqs have you taken/still need? Volunteering? GPA? Heard anything interesting lately about the program? Let's get to chatting!
@jennytmuw. I've wondered about this too. I'm really not sure if it's totally ok or frowned upon...but you've applied to both programs through the same system, right? So they can see that - not to mention the application offers that option. So they must expect you to choose your preference if accepted both places. And you can't reject one offer without knowing if you've got the other. It makes sense to accept EP then switch if you get ATX.
Maybe email kayla? And if you do, please let us know what she says!
Jenny! Congrats! I didn't email them after, but that is definitely the right thing to do! I would talk to Gretchen, she's been really helpful and understanding through my whole application process. While I was waiting for my interview she had told me that about 10-20% of the applicants were from out of town, so I'm sure you're probably not the only one in this situation. If it was me personally, I'd hold my spot in EP just In case it didn't work out in Austin for some reason. At the end of the day, you have to do what's best for you!
Congrats to you all Flyonn, Jennytmuw, Kaseyroo, Krisared, and Kkcriner for getting the interview!! and congrats to stacienicole and jennytmuw on the acceptance letter! I'm so excited for you guys =]
I did get an invitation to Austin, but I got rejected from EP Cohort. It was an extremely sad day, I thought I prepared myself for it, but I guess not enough. It's making me worried about the Austin interview. I'm not sure why they rejected me from EP just yet, I'll find out tomorrow.. but now I guess I need to look into other options as well. If I didn't get into EP, how can I hope to get into Austin which is so much more competitive than EP??! But I'm not giving up!!
kkcriner - about your question on states. I have a 3.2-3.3 on all my college coursework, 3.59 on the prerequisites, and 3.8 on the science prerequisites. The only prereqs I'm missing is US History 2 and State/Local Government (I'm not from Texas) Scored a 92.3% on my TEAS. I have over 100+ volunteer hours in healthcare, but only 20 of those were in nursing. I don't have any work experience in nursing, just in other healthcare like optometry and dentistry. I'm hoping to get a job as a CNA, or do some more volunteer hours before the interview and just to prepare myself for applications elsewhere since my chances are looking pretty bleak for Austin.
Good luck everyone!! I hope that you all get accepted into the Austin program that applied. Any tips stacie and jenny on the interview? I don't know if I just bombed the interview or if it was my stats or something else entirely! *sigh*
Lilochik- I really went into the interview with planned answers. I knew they were going to ask questions like "tell me about yourself" and "why nursing?" I also thought about how I would be able to succeed in the program. I also made them laugh a few times and so I'm hoping that's what helped me. My previous degree was in medical humanities and so I made sure my strong thoughts about healthcare were conveyed. Just really find your strengths and capitalize on those! I hope your Austin interview goes well!!! Don't give up! I was turned down by two other schools before I got into this one! You can totally do this!!! :)

Agreed! Don't stress! I have also heard from previous tech students/applicants who got interview offers the following Monday. Waiting through the weekend is no fun but hang in there!
