Anyone Applying to Spring 2014 Texas Tech 2nd Degree BSN

Published

Anyone applying to Texas Tech's program, specifically the 2nd degree Austin program? What is your work experience? What prereqs have you taken/still need? Volunteering? GPA? Heard anything interesting lately about the program? Let's get to chatting!

@ jennytmuw - that was me! I thought it might be you when you talked about being the very last interviewee. I think it's fine if you didn't make perfect eye contact with each person on the panel...it's easier to answer the question looking at the one who asked it.

Speaking of other locations...did they ask anyone about a new program in Dallas and if you'd consider going there? I'm assuming the Dallas cohort would start at the same time (Spring 2014) which would call for some really quick moving!! I think the student panel said they'd heard about it - that it might start with as few as 10 people??? Anybody hear anything similar?

Hi @ krisared ! Cool! ah okay

I haven't heard of such a program, but wow 10 ppl! Nice!!

@jennytmuw- I hear you! I am definitely over-analyzing my interview right now. I'm thinking of things I said and things I wish I said.. Oh, the torture. I had trouble addressing all of the interviewers at the same time too, so I would make eye contact with the interviewer who asked me the question and then make eye contact with the other two briefly.

@krisared- I got the question about the Dallas cohort as well. I told them it would not be my preference at all, but I am really interested in the program so I would consider it.

I think we'll hear back by Wednesday of next week! I'm going to try and stay distracted until then. ;)

I was one of the first interviews on Monday and I met some pretty cool people. Everyone seems to "average out" as in some people's GPAs are slightly lower than others but then their TEAS scores are slightly higher than others. It also seems to be extremely competitive, so if you get in, consider yourself fortunate because I am sure the other half that doesn't get in has a very competitive application. They didn't mention the Dallas cohort, but they did say they try to get students as close to home for their clinicals as they can and then asked where I lived(which is awesome, bc I live in NE Georgetown, so anywhere in south Austin is about an hour from me.) I agree that the students were VERY helpful.

Hello everyone! I was the first to interview Tuesday morning and I spoke with Crystal and Elizabeth. It was as if we were just chatting about things not an uncomfortable interview situation which was awesome. I thought it went great and then near the end they askedsine I lived in Dallas if I would consider that program (which is only 10 students). I told them I would take whatever they wanted to give me... Night, day or weekend clinical b/c I wanted on board so bad... I thought it would b much more stressful but they made the interview really relaxed. We even spoke for 30 minutes.... GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!! I'm super anxious about it :-)

yes they asked me about the dallas cohort and i saidyes id move there haha. and yes its ten additional people for the dallas location. and 30-35 for austin

Hey guys!! I applied to Austin and didn't receive an interview. I was told it was because I haven't completed my bachelors but I was offered an interview in Dallas. Austin was my number one for financial reasons and my dad has stage 4 cancer so I really need to be close to him, but Dallas could be an option if a miracle happens! Anyone else in the same boat?

Alizma- Just curious since i didn't know the Dallas program existed until Tuesday....when is your Dallas interview scheduled?

Yeah same. It's brand new. November 11th in Lubbock!

austin people please leave word when you have recieved notice as to whether you got in or not!

alizma: The same thing happened with me. I graduate on December 13th, 2013, a Friday.

I have an interview for the Dallas cohort, which is where I prefer to be. I lived there for 5 years before I moved to Lubbock and my family lives there. I've already made plans to move back after graduation. I only wanted to be in Austin because Austin is closer to Dallas than Lubbock. Being in the program there would be PERFECT!

That's awesome brabuckl! It sounds like the perfect situation for you. I graduate the same day from Texas A&M but I was super bummed that not having my degree yet was the reason for me not having a chance in Austin. I have no idea where I'll live if I get into the Dallas location. I don't know Dallas well at all but I could get to know it for a year. Maybe I'll see you the 11th in Lubbock then!
