Anyone applying for Fall 2011 at College of Dupage?

U.S.A. Illinois

Hello,

I was just wondering if there were others out there applying for the ADN RN program at College of Dupage.I wanted to know how many pre-reqs they have completed and how you did on the PAX-RN.

Thanks

If you are taking Chem or A&P1 in the Fall at COD, you can submit application before the class is complete. On the application, you will fill out Semester and Year complete and leave grade blank. Records updates everything before they send the apps to review committee. You don't exactly need to apply this early, but I'd get app in by September or October. I saved Chem for last and took it Fall of 2009 and had my application in October 2009.

PAX scores will vary each year, but the lowest composite score I heard for students starting Fall 2010 was 115. The national average is 100, so the 117 people that were accepted (self included) all did better than the national average.

On another note:

While Chem and A&P1 are all that's required to apply, it is very unlikely you will get in that year only having those 2 done, however, you still should apply because you will have an extra point the next year since you've already applied once. The most successful applicant's have all but 1 or maybe 2 classes completed by application time. There are extra points for having most of other degree requirements completed. (Nutrition, Psych, Micro, A&P2, etc.)

A lot of people get disappointed because they apply and don't get in only having those 2 done.

Thank you CODADN for clarifying that up for us. That is what I thought it doesnt matter when the application is turned in. Just that at the time the review comes you have the things you need (pre-reqs, gen eds) complete.

By the way, I will have all my gen eds complete by the deadline. Along with the required chem and ap I. I am only missing my CNA. I also have a bachelors and masters degree. The only thing I dont have going for me is the PAX-RN score. I didnt do as well as I wanted. I am maybe considering do it over again. But then again it makes me feel like id be going up against a firing squad twice. :uhoh3:

Thanks again for clarifying. :yeah:

I will be re-applying for 2011. I didn't make it this time due to my PAX score. I will have all the pre-req's & CNA done by then though. Like the others had already mentioned.......I was told to turn in my app without having completed my fall classes and the grades would be sent over once they were received. I hope I can do better on the PAX this time & get accepted. Good luck everyone!

thank you. Good luck to you too! If you don't mind me asking How do know the pax rn was the reason you didn't get in? Do they let you now or kinda figured?

I emailed one of the nursing committee people and she told me. I kind of figured that was the reason though. The reading section gets me every time so I hope I can better prepare myself this time around.

thank you so much for sharing. I wish you the best. Have you taken the pax rn again already?

No I haven't taken it yet. I looked on the NLN website and they don't have any test dates listed for COD yet. Are you taking any classes right now? I'm battling Micro right now & will be doing a 5 wk online English comp class.

Thank you for your response. I was acquainted with a student who was accepted to the Fall 2010 program who told me that she knew of someone who was admitted with just the pre-reqs completed. I understand that the more gen-eds completed (with A's), the better chance the applicant has to gain admission. I will need to have taken only A&P II when my application is evaluated.

I am taking Chem1105 and Nutrition. I would have also done the CNA but I want to wait to see if I get on in first. I am ok with Micro if you need help. I took the Pax-rn in May of this year. I emailed Maureen on the committee to let me know when the new tests are available. I will let you know. I believe I am going to be wayyyy more confident this time around. To bad I have to take it if I do in December. Id have to restudy all over again!

CHITOWNHOPEFUL...

Have you seen the new test dates on the NLN website? They just posted them. It would be nice to know if someone else was going to suffer with me on one of those dates. Im considering one of the December dates.

Let me know.

I just looked & I think I'll be doing the last Saturday test date...think it was 12/11. What classes are you taking in the fall? I'm only doing the math1102 online & then I will just need cna. I had micro in the summer & that was rough but I made it through it.

I wont be doing any classes. I will have all my gen eds and pre-reqs done. I will also too have only the CNA to do. But I am going to await for acceptance/denial (hopefully not) letter.

I am doing the 12/7 test date. Christmas can get crazy so thought Id finish before it even came around. Have you taken the test before?

I took Chemistry and Nutrition in the summer. I got A's in both. Thank god!!
