Hello all! Just wondering if anyone applied to St. Mary's for the Summer 2019 semester. Has anyone heard anything back or know what their timeline is? I had heard that they no longer do live interviews. Is this correct? Anyway, good luck to whoever applied and hopefully we get to work together next year!
LifeLongRN, it said the average GPA for math/sciences was 3.3 out of a 4.0 scale. I had 3.5. And the years of experience was 3 years in an ICU. I had 2.
Minn_RN, this is the first time I applied to St. Mary's. I have been denied twice before by two other programs. I am pretty sure for one of them it was partly because my BSN wasn't completed. I had two months left after the application deadline. And the other program my transcripts didn't get verified in time. I will continue to work hard and continue taking science courses to boost my GPA and make me more competitive. It's just hard to wait and wait just to be back at square one.
I just got a rejection letter. It seemed pretty generic and said exactly what you had mentioned. I have 2 years experience in the Cardiovascular/Thoracic Surgical ICU and 1 and a half years in the Emergency Room. My Science GPA is 3.85 and my overall Bachelor's GPA is 3.89. My certifications are CEN, CCRN, TNCC, CMC, AND CSC. The only reasons I can come up with is that my last Chemistry class was 6 and a half years ago rather than 5 and I forgot to put my Certifications on that one GPA worksheet and only had them in my Resume and Goal Statement. I'm honestly super bummed out, especially because SMU doesn't do interviews. They don't know anyone who was accepted or rejected. It just feels weird to make a decision without an interview. I would have felt a lot better getting rejected after having a more fair chance, you know? Oh well, now I can move on to the next schools.
Agree...I got 2 rejections--they feel terrible--before I got in off the wait list from my top choice in the Midwest. I started this May and I couldn't be happier with my school. Small class size, my teachers/dean seem completely invested in our success, they have multiple months long independent rotations (start next year I'm told, we are front loaded)... There are other fish in the sea, schoolwise, and with your stats, I don't doubt you'll get it. I'm sure they'd have bought you an interview at mine, mine were lower but they look at the whole package and how you interview. Don't give up!
Sorry Lifelong & Turkeylips
I got denied twice before getting accepted. Getting denied truly sucks, but can be a truly humbling experience. You both sound very qualified and sound like great candidates. When I got denied I got suggested to apply to apply again and/or to other schools because your experience, certifications and/or essay may be more appealing to where they are looking for.
Thanks for the encouragement! It is humbling and I have to stay positive because it is the first time I had applied to school. I'm glad those who had been trying for a while finally got in. I actually started this thread and I'm grateful for everyone who has participated and offered advice, info, and shared our collective anxiety! Best of luck to everyone!
LifeLongRN, I am sorry you also got a denial letter. Your stats are fantastic, I have no doubt you will get in somewhere soon! To everyone, thank you for all your kind words, it's nice to see nurses sticking together even in something as competitive as this! You are all great! Best of luck to everyone!
Did everyone who received a decision letter also receive a pdf copy via email? I recently moved and forgot to update my address with the school. My application status still says "application under review" and now i'm nervous that a letter was sent to the wrong address. Has anybody else not heard anything? THANK YOU

I am sorry Turkeylips. Is this the first time you applied? Putting yourself out there and getting denied is a hard process. To put a positive spin you made it through the first round atleast. A great aspect of St. Marys is you can e-mail to get feedback to make your application stronger.
Best of luck to you
