anyone apply for sccc fall 2011 nursing program?

Published

Just looking for company ... Has anyone applied for ammerman's fall 2011 nursing program? What are your grades and does anyone know last years GPA cutoff? Also, do you know anyone who got in without four A's?

This is a new thread...others are from a few urs ago.

redtailhawk,

Thank you for that info. I checked MySccc and all of my records are on file. Did you take Micro yet? Do you know anything about what your chances of getting in the program are without Micro? The suspense i killing me!! I can't wait till April/may.

Redtailhawk, thanks for the tip, I checked as you suggested and saw that my application to the program is also detailed to some extend and it says that they have my HS transcript. I don't remember sending it so I will still check with them on Monday. I went to HS so long ago that they are probably having trouble reading the etchings on the tablet!

Steen, I thought in the information seminar they said something about using the Micro grade as a tiebreaker of sorts, after putting folks in order by the 4 main course grades... not 100% sure though. I took Micro this past semester, I found it fairly different when compared to A&P but a lot of the cell structure information was valuable in this class too. Starts with a lot of microscopy the first third of the course and then you never touch the scope again. Pretty interesting stuff, but a lot of nomenclature and factoids to remember. Good luck if you are taking it this spring :)

Buckeroo,

I haven't gone to the Nursing Seminar yet. I've been so busy with classes, work, and family. I plan on attending in Feb. As far as Micro goes... I haven't taken it yet. I am enrolled for the Spring semester. I spoke to a councilor about getting into the nursing program and he said with my grades (all A's in the 4 required classes) there is no reason why I wouldn't get accepted. I also have most of the other non-nursing courses in the program completed as well. Just need one more gym after spring semester. I heard about alot of people getting in without Micro and less than a 4.0... so I feel like I might have a shot. :)

The best of luck to all of you as well!! Please keep us posted when you get your decision letters!

if you guys dont mind, can people post their grades for the 4 classes

i just need 1 more class before applying

my grades are

A&P 1 - A

PSY 101 - A

ENG 101 - B+

A&P 2 - take this semester

im gonna take micro during the summer

i cant apply for this upcoming fall, so i may have to apply for the spring for next fall

I have also applied to the Fall 2011 Ammerman Day program and the Grant as my second choice. I was taking Micro last semester but had to withdraw due to a family illness. I am now taking it again this Spring. Hopefully I will still get in as I have all the courses in addition to the 4 pre-reqs completed. I checked the student services area of the SCCC website and my change of emphasis is in there...yay!! Good luck to everyone...I can't wait till we start hearing something!!!

I called Central Admissions today (number was on the "items needed" letter recently received). They used my student ID number to check if anything was missing and I was reportedly good to go for consideration. So if in doubt, I would suggest giving them a call and double checking.

Just want to let everyone know that I went to the nursing seminar at Ammerman campus. The dean of admissions told us that micro is NOT looked at for acceptance to the program. The only reason they would look at it is for a tie breaker. For instance, one seat left and same GPA. About 580 students applied this year and there are 120 seats for Ammerman Day. 60 seats for evening. Also he said that last years GPA was 3.8. He doesn't know about this years bc all of the applicants files have not been looked at yet. For anyone with a 4.0 GPA in the four prereqs... He said they have NEVER not accepted someone with a 4.0 yet. And finally... Decision letters will go out end of march, beginning of April. And if you are wait listed it is not uncommon to be called up until September to be accepted. Hope this helps everyone. Good luck!

Thanks for the update Steen, good information. I seem to remember last year they said there was somethingon the order of 700 applications, so I like those odds better already! I hear what your saying about the last minute thing for those wait listed, I know someone who was called for Stony Brook the day class started, so you never know...

Hi Steen,

Thanks for the update. Quick question... when the Dean of Admissions at Ammerman said that last year's GPA was a 3.8., was he referring to the average GPA of the applicants? Or was 3.8 the highest GPA accepted?

The wait is frustrating and I am now trying to decipher GPA's from one year to the next ;0) ... just spinning my wheels till the letter's get sent.

Best of luck!!

3.8 was probably the cut off, which is 3 A's and 1 B+ at the least

3.8 was the lowest GPA accepted into the program last year.

Try this link to calculate your GPA. it's from the SCCC website.
