Anyone apply to CSU Stanislaus or Sonoma?

Published

Hi there! So i am patiently (as possible!) waiting to hear back from CSU Stanislaus and Sonoma - Im getting to the point where Im reaaly anxious and nervous - and checking my email and mail 13872194 times a day :) Anyone else out there waiting too? Lol it'd be nice to have someone go crazy with me!:yeah:

Hey - sorry it took so long to post back, No the sew student orientation and nursing orientation are different. And we have to do the new student one before we can register for classes, so the sooner the better i guess. There is one one June 2nd and July 10th. I really dont wanna go back and forth either! Such a long drive! Ugh - but i dunno, i think i might go to the June one, just so its over with. The deadline to sign up is May 29th. Let me know if you wanna go and maybe we can go together. Modesto is about 20 minutes from the campus, not too bad. But there are a bunch of small little towns in the area - delhi, hilmar, livingston - seems that housing is scarce tho. I've been checking out craigslist.

So I just heard back from Sac State - Im alternate #49. Haha its ok, i didnt really expect to get in there. I had 76 pts. You hear back?

Yee, had the email waiting for me since i just got back from class. #59 here with 74 points haha.

As for orientation, I planned on going to the info thingy tomorrow morning but laziness kicked in, not down to drive a few hours back and forth haha. But yeah just tell me when you plan on going to the new student orientation, sounds like it's gonna be a dreadful day :( housing wise ive been browsing craigslist too and its alot more affordable compared than the bay area, and the commute isnt so bad since im pretty much used to traveling that much for school.

btw sorry kinda late, my names bryan

Lol I was wondering if i was talking to a boy or girl haha - Im Danielle :D

Annisme,

So I have so many questions! LOL - I've been thinking of new ones every day, I just cant wait to go to the orientation and really get a feel for the program! its in 2 weeks :loveya:! I just wanna start buying all my supplies hahah!!!So i was wondering, do you know which area you want to go in once you pass your NCLEX? (Which you WILL !:yeah:) I am sooo looking forward to learning where my niche will be! I looked at the clinical rotations we'll be doing, and was wondering whether you get a feel for other areas as well. Im pretty interested in ICUs, neuro specifically, it seems so interesting but i dont know if thats really what I'll enjoy doing. Which was your favorite Clinical rotation? Least favorite? You have me super nervous/anxious/excited for the psych clinical! Is it really that bad? Im feeling a little nervous about the RNs we'll be working with. Ive read some posts about really mean nasty RNs that hate students, seems a little uncomfortable lol. Also, regarding the High NCLEX pass rate - did you observe a lot of dropouts in the program? Im reading on here about colleges that have high pass rates tend to "get rid" of the weaker students, of course Im sure some people aren't meant for nursing or whatnot, but i heard that most schools have one really tough class that is meant to weed out the weaker students from the stronger. Is there a specific class i should be prepared for? Im sorry for so many questions! Im sure your busy. Your graduating really soon right?! You'll have to tell me all abou the pinning ceremony! lol

Questions are good! It means you are thinking critically:yeah:

Supplies: binders & notebooks (one for each class), #2 pencils, a pen you love and some highlighters. Start there, you will soon figure out if you need anything else.

As for where I will end up...who knows? I will be working ER to begin with. I am externing there and love it. I have been offered a position and I'm taking it:coollook:

ICU/neuro are very interesting and rewarding. I did my preceptorship in ICU and loved it. My favorite clinicals were Med/Surg rotations. Advanced Med/Surg being my favorite. Least favorite? OB...it just isn't my cup of tea.

Psych wasn't all that bad, we were just in such an interesting place! What you will find out is, that no matter what area you go in to, you will have psych patients. It is just the way it is! As for the mentor RN's...I had only 1 bad experience in all three years. Most nurses are happy to teach someone who wants to learn. Communicate that to them. Ask questions, be interested, tell them you want to learn and do all you can. If the RN isn't really busy, follow the CNA's around and give them a hand. Learn from them! They have incredible skills.

This program does not "weed out" anyone. Each student is given every opportunity to do well. We did lose a few students, except for one who was injured and had to wait for clinicals, each person who left did so on their own. Expect great things from the faculty! They will do everything they can to help you succeed. Be prepared for every class. Pharm was a killer for us because we took it all in the first semester, but nobody left because of it. Our curriculum was different from yours for various things, but each change is meant to make things better.

Our pinning is Thursday, June 4 at 1730 at Monte Vista Chapel, if you would like to attendYou are more than welcome!

I will send you a PM with some more details.

Oh my goodness, Thank you so much! You are awesome! You just reassured me about so many things! And congrats on getting a job, i hear thats not too easy right now. ER seems really interesting too! lol I was just reading an article on here about the strangest things people go into the ER for - so funny! I was cracking up! Hangnails and pregnancy tests . . people are so crazy sometimes. . ( LOL i guess thats why you say we see psych patiens everywhere). I would make it to the ceremony, but i live about 5 hours away from the campus right now- I'll be relocating in August. Well, once again - a BIG CONGRATLATIONS for all your accomplishments, it sounds like your gonna make a great nurse :loveya: And i will PM you if i have more Questions . .which i probably will ;)

Hello... I will also be attending the program at CSU Stan in the fall of 2009. I couldn't help but read these posts, they helped answer some of my questions also... furthermore, I don’t commonly posts on blogs, but if I was the person that had to relocate I would like for someone who is familiar with the area to help me... (I live like 2 blocks away from CSU Stan). As for the question on the last page... the distance from Modesto to Turlock is not too far (avg-15-20 min’s since nowadays there is a lot more traffic), however, the commute can become overwhelming throughout the months. Just a personal opinion though! There are quite a few apartments right next to the university, I saw a sign on one of them today stating that the first month’s rent is for free (appt is one block away from CSU Stan). So yeah, I’m not sure if that helped anyone but just thought I’d share this info in case it will help anyone... if anyone has any questions just post a reply…

It is finished! Our last final DONE! I have completed the Nursing Program. It hasn't really sunk in yet, but I want to encourage those of you who are just starting. It will be over before you know it! When you think you can't keep going, let me know. I will remind you that it can be done and that you are on the right road. I'm so thankful for those who encouraged me, it is time to "pay it forward". Have a great summer everyone!:coollook:

m209 - Congratulations on your acceptance! Glad to find another member of our future class :yeah:!! Ahh - it feels so great to say that! Thank you for offering help on the living situation :) Currently, Im living way out in the country, and my bf is sorta panicking about moving to "the city" haha. I have only visited CSU stan once, but it seems that Turlock is a lot quieter than modesto. Whats your take? Oh ya, i grew up in Tracy, so im a little familiar with the modesto area - well, the mall - lol. Preferably I would like to live closer to the campus of course, but affordability is also a factor ;). I really would like a small house or duplex with a backyard, which seems to be a little difficuly to find right now. Hopefully more housing becomes available soon here. I have a dog, that bf adamantly refuses to part with (which is okay bc i love her too) but it makes housing a pain in the butt! So if you could, let me know if you see anything in the area. Do you think that any of the little towns surrounding turlock - ceres, hilmar, delhi - are a tolerable commute?

Ann - I am so happy for you! Reading your posts is so inspirational to me, and i hope that i can keep in contact with you you in the future. You words are so kind and encouraging!

Turlock is definitely quieter than Modesto, and I also think there is less crime here... As for the affordability I think that living close would be the best choice for you (in town at least) or even walking distance (I think not paying for gas will save you the most money in this economy .... Haha) ... we used to live in those apartments, they're nice and I think affordable but you can check them out for yourself... You know there's a few around the university area so I'm certain one would have what you are looking for as well as allowing a pet in the apartment you know... As for houses or duplexes I'm not too familiar with any.... But I will for sure let you know if I see anything. As for the little towns surrounding Turlock, I think Ceres is a tolerable commute it's only like 5 min's away... Hilmar is not in my opinion it can take like 15+ min's to get there from the university since you drive down an exit for a really long drive rather than just staying on the freeway like the other two locations... and Delhi can also take like 10-15 min's but I suppose it's a tolerable commute also.

Thanks for the heads up on housing. I was wondering whether housing would have been more expensive closer to the university compared to areas a little further out with commuting expenses. I haven't really checked housing beyond CL yet but it doesn't seem like there are a lot of open housing in the area yet, hopefully it'll turn around as summer shifts over. I'll probably start browsing the area around school on the upcoming new student orientation next Tuesday and nursing orientation.. maybe haha. It's good to know what to expect at the very least i suppose

Danielle did you go to the orientation today? It was a huge waste of time- 2 hour drive back and forth to just get your ID and little info sessions on things you would already know. I somehow got lost on the way and ended up taking the country roads or so to Turlock, I was quite horrified to see nothing but farms and cows until I hit the city streets. The area seems... quite boring, but i didn't come to play haha. Guess im too used to the city :( Commuting to Modesto defintely isn't bad too, about 10-15mins on decent traffic. But with the campus size, I'm thinking something really close would be the best and just walk since the area also seems pretty safe.

on the side- are we required to have a pda for the program?
