Hello! A little background about me...I graduated with a Bachelors of Science from Ohio University in Hearing, Speech and Language Sciences. Upon graduating my father had gotten seriously ill and I put off plans on grad school. That's when I fell in love with nursing and knew that is what I wanted to do! I checked into Kents Accelerated BSN program but had trouble with transferring credits so it would take me 3 years to graduate instead of 2. That is when I decided I would just get my associates and then do my bsn online while I was working.
I heard that no one will hire someone with just their associates. Is this true? I really want to work in a hospital setting! If anyone could give advice please let me know! Thank you in advance!

I am from the Akron area and graduated in 2009 with an associates degree in nursing. I also have a BA in another field. I was able to get a job in a nursing home quickly after graduation, I worked on a rehab wing. I applied to hospital jobs everyday and was hired at a hospital a year and a half later. It may be hard to get into a hospital without a BSN, as many are requiring it or on hiring freezes. You will probably be able to find something outside of the hospital setting. Good luck!

Some hospitals will still hire ADN's as long as you sign saying you will get your BSN in a certain time frame (Here at UH in Cleveland I believe they give you 5 years) and they will pay for it.
Thank you both for your advice! It really helps me out!

Its not true. new grads still get hired. People retire, go on maternity leave. Nurse managers agrivate people and they leave.
Keep your head up. This is a tough economy People are less quick to retire. Husbands laid off from factory job so Wife stays in the job market. Its an employer market. Some times Jobs not even posted in the "Computer" ARE POSTED so you can access them. I have made connections with nurse managers on the floor who have opened positions for me. It help if you are a nurse aid and then get your license. Employers want to be sure you are a performer before investing in you. Some hospitals are making new grads take a lesser wage during you 2 months of orientation. Would you be willing to do this? Hospitals are making cut related to the New health care law that just passed. Hope they don't spread us too thin. Try every where Google all Nursing homes, Assisted livings, hospitals, home care agencies, vetrans administration. Psychiatric facilities. dont forget hospice care. Keep trying. I am not sure if temporary staffing agencies will hire new grads probably not. Keep your head up. Its not bad to be a new grad. I like faith based facilities over corporate ones. Small ones over big ones. Teaching hosptials are nice also.
