Many people have gone this route and are currently going this route. That is what the distance learning forum is all about. You will find that most people tell you to stay away from The College Network. They promise you more than they can give. Nothing but a publishing company that sells overpriced study guides that can be found on ebay at a fraction of their cost new. And you can not get out of the contract if you don't finish the program you have purchased their study guides for. Since you are in CA, Excelsior College is out for you. The CA BRN says it will evaluate a CA graduate of EC on a case by case basis, but when push comes to shove, they don't grant a CA license to EC grads on a routine basis. You can do the ISU LVN to BSN program, again, be aware of the push to get in debt to The College Network. Another distance program available in SoCal, is the LVN (or CNA) to BSN program. This program gives the best bang for your tuition buck. http://www.wgu.edu
