Anybody get accepted with a GED?

I'm getting all my paperwork together for my LPN program and it only just dawned on me how having my GED instead of a high school diploma might affect my chances of getting an acceptance letter. I've got my mind on it and now I can't stop thinking about it.

For those of you that have your GED, did it make it anymore difficult getting into nursing school? I'm probably worrying too much but I just can't help it. :(

By the way, my GED score is 2640.

Specializes in Pedi.

I worked with a NURSE PRACTITIONER who had never graduated from high school and had a GED. I have a friend whose roommate never graduated from high school but was in medical school when they were living together.

Never graduated from High school! Got my GED, years later started my college career....I have maintained a 4.0 and high TEAS scores and was accepted into my RN program of choice! Whether I got a high school diploma or GED has never been an issue! Its all about your college course work grades and test scores :)

Specializes in critical care, Med-Surg.

Don't worry! Me... GED, LPN, ADN, BSN...

Have faith in yourself, you'll be F.I.N.E. fine!

Not all of us have it so easy in life. People WILL give you a chance! After that, it's all up to you.

I went to LPN school several years after obtaining my GED, and with no tech/hospital experience. It doesn't affect anything. What does matter is your grades/scores on whatever your school uses for their competetive process. Ours used a combination of your core class grades, and an entrance exam score for getting into the program. And I am now back in school for RN. Same thing. GED didn't matter, but your competitive process scores and this time an interview also.

Good luck!

I also have a GED and am in my last year of a BSN program, the school I attend was very competitive and no one with less than a 3.5 GPA was accepted into it. My GED had no effect whatsoever on my acceptance, it was GPA and TEAS score! No matter what anyone says, though, it's like walking on egg shells until you get that letter saying you're in! Good luck and stay positive in the end all the hard work will be worth it! :) That's what I keep telling myself anyways, lol!
