Hi, I am an LPN (X 15 years). I guess I made a really stupid decision and signed a contract with RUE Ed. about 1 1/2 years ago for their study materials to become a RN through Excelsior College. Since then and after taking 4 of the Excelsior exams, my situation has changed and I have decided to persue my Associate Degree in Nursing through a local community college due to cost and other reasons associated with having to work full time and care for my mother whose health is failing quickly. I have almost all of the general ed. courses out of the way now after taking night classes and have applied for the 2007 Returning LPN to RN program and feel pretty good about getting in. I wrote RUE a letter asking them to release me from my contract as I have paid for all materials that I have received from them and would not be needing the remaining courses on the contract. I do not plan to order/use any more of their study guides, so I am basically paying for nothing. They offered to reduce my payment for 3 months, but would not release me from the contract. I cannot afford to continue paying them $99.00 a month for another 2 1/2 years for something that I cannot use. Does anyone have any suggestions as they will not send me anymore study guides unless I am actively testing (which I don't plan to do). If they would simply send them to me as I pay for them, I could resell them, but right now, they won't do that. I am really not sure what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
