Any Veterans in nursing here?

Published

Just wondering... Any veterans here currently in or working towards a career in nursing? If so, what branch?

Myself, I'm a Army medic currently on my 1st year of my BSN program. I also have a professional career in Occupational Therapy.

Cheers

Army vet here, got out in 06. Was with HQ USASOC (special ops aka special forces). Got out the army to become a nurse...woohoo start clinicals in less than 30 days.

Specializes in Emergency Room.

Wow! Awesome to see so many vets here!

Myself, I'm a 68WN3... medic & occupational therapy assistant. I've been practicing as a licensed OT for several years now while going to school. "Been there, done that" in terms of Iraq. Currently on my BSN.

To the current and past vets, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! :)

Yes, I am a vet. I was in the USCG (active) for 8.5 years and then the USNR til retirement. I was NOT a nurse then-I was a Boatswains mate. I am now a RN-BSN and work in an ICU. A lot of the skills are the same-believe it or not! Nursing Rocks!

5yrs USCG and 3 yrs USAF, neither one had anything to do with nursing. I am in my first semester of ADN. Good to see all the vets taking advantage of the opportunities that nursing has to offer.

US Army 2 year Veteran Supply Specialist(E-4)/Armorer for Engineer Training unit, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO 1982-84. Most All branches of Service train engineers (or first ones into battle after Marines) at Fort Leonard Wood, so it was like working in all the Services at once (except the US Army is KING of the Scare Tactics of all the Services, but that's ok, lol).

Vets tend to group together in any occupation, since they are the men (or women) who know how to take care of themselves, respect others, and work well as a contributing team member of society. No matter how old or what branch, there always seems like some kind of bond exists between Vets.

I'm a newbie trying to start out as a CNA and preping for ADN program and/or PTA program; but it is nice to hear of so many Vets here. Its only logical, but still nice to hear :-)

Specializes in Staff nurse.

About a thousand years ago I was a medic in the Army, worked on a maternity floor, and was discharged with a 91B20, and specialist E-5. 28 years later I got my ADN...been nursing for 5 years.

I have been in the military for 6 years as of next month. I have been in the Army reserves and was depoloyed for OIF in 2003. I am just completing my first semester of a BSN program (only 5 more semesters to go lol). I am currently in the IRR and hoping I don't get deployed again. My job in the military is Chemical Operations so I'm the NBC guy. I'm currently an E-6 SSG.

Army 29W4I. 12 years.

28-year 3N199.

MOst will. Just see the specific Professor who works at a Veterens Hospital. I could have gotten in 1 year or two earlier if I'd known and be out by now. Good luck.

:DField artillery, king of battle, 13A00,155mm and 8 inch self propelled howitzers, 9 years active duty, retired from the USAR. Much better nurse than I ever was an officer. 16years as an ICU nurse.Much respect to everyone who has ever served this country, it truly is an honor.
