Hi everyone--
Has anyone else out there applied to the UCSF MEPN program? They're supposed to send out letters this month (December) for the interview process. Has anyone gotten a letter yet? Will those that aren't asked to the interview process get a rejection letter now?
Crossing my fingers...!
Anyone waitlisted? I'm #1 alternate for my chosen specialty... integrated ANP/Psych CNS. While I am crossing my fingers, I'm also prepared to apply again. Any past alternates' advice would be much appreciated!
Hey Sammypi,
I am waitlisted AGAIN this year but I'm going for the ACHIN specialty. Last year I was #2 and this year I'm #3. Since I didn't get in last year, I'm not hopeful at ALL for this year so hopefully three's a charm next year. Only 5 were accepted into my specialty as I heard through the grapevine...I'm not sure about yours. You may have a really good chance being #1, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Be prepared to get very late notice if you do not get in. I wasn't notified until July, way after classes began, that I didn't get in last year. The good thing is that by the time you find out, it's nearing the time to apply again and most of the application is recycleable---you just need a new goal stmt and 1/4 letters has to be new.
Good luck all you waitlisters and congrats MEPN 2009ers...
nightnurse007-i just wrote a huge post to you and accidentally erased it. With a name like nightnurse007, you'd think they'd move you to the absolute top of the list!
To both Nightnurse and Jeomoz - Thankyou for filling me in... it's going to be quite a ride, for sure, waiting and possibly reapplying and waiting some more; if I do it with half the amount of grace that you two seem to possess then I'll be alright regardless. Keep this little world of MEPN hopefuls posted - I'm sure I'm not the only one rooting for you both. xo

Hi Sammypi. Sorry to hear about being waitlisted, but hope you get that letter moving you up into the accepted category. I understand there may be some confusion about the number in your concentration. This year there are only two of us in the integrated track, however there are others in a variation of that with a focus on the Psych CNS or Child/Adult Psych NP. I believe there are less 12 in the combined specialties. There were also two in the integrated program from the previous years' MEPN class.
As UC is the only NP/CNS psych program in northern CA, it can either be as competitive as midwifery or the FNP tracks or not. Seems like not that many want to go into psych, but since I love psych, I've both grateful I got in and glad there are so few of us.
Good luck with your program.
Hey NightNurse007, we are truly comrades! I am a reapplier too, second round and it looks like someone may have read my post from last year re: not getting into PMHCNS, I was #3 Alternate. Any way this year I shifted gears to ANP/PMHCNS and came out #4 Alternate! Yikes, ouch, oh well onward to round three. Good luck to you guys, if it helps the time flew by between classes starting last year (without me) and the time to get the next application in and interview. I expect it to fly by and actually look forward to applying again, I am really happy to be an alternate, it's not 'No' and in this program it's quite a nice thing to achieve.
Take care all.
Yep, it's actually not that bad.. I guess once you know what you want, that's half the battle, so a year or so to get into the program wont make a huge difference in the whole scheme of things. Besides there are so many things you can do to gain experience while you wait. All that said, if 3 folks would like to bow out of ACHIN, I won't be mad atcha!
Well Sammypi and SFtoRedwood, let's keep each other posted... We could share a fruit plate at next year's interview day breakfast... Perhaps we could volunteer to help them run it LOL.
007 and sammi, I am in each of your corners, I figure I am vastly toast-plus for this round, just going to enjoy the ride, and yes we could interview and host the event next round. Yes please, lets stay in touch, sammi I think you have the same program as I (ANP/PMHCNS?), this year (I have my figers very crossed for you), just for news I am shifting to PNP next round. If you wanna brainstorm or compare notes on the Psych/MH area I'm game.
We, the cohort of proud and hopeful Alternates!

Sammypi,
I guess it's time for me to come out of the shadows. Longtime lurker, first time poster. I'm Alt#3 for the integrated ANP/Psych CNS track. You are in a great but torturous position.
I went through the postings for last year and I'm sure Alt#3 didn't make it. Don't know about Alt#1 or #2. I also found that they accepted 8 in our specialty on 2008--again all from postings, no official word.
I'm still very hopeful, but realistic about my position. So, I'm gearing myself up for round 3. Good luck to you. Keep me posted on any changes.
I'll keep my fingers crossed!
Congrats to all who made it this year!!
