Any UCSF Mepn Applicants?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi everyone--

Has anyone else out there applied to the UCSF MEPN program? They're supposed to send out letters this month (December) for the interview process. Has anyone gotten a letter yet? Will those that aren't asked to the interview process get a rejection letter now?

Crossing my fingers...!

it still says 'not available' for all my letter writers. has anyone's online application changed? just curious.

yes moreplease that was a question for you. its good to have another integrated track applicant to talk to.

In that case, here are my stats:

I currently work with people with developmental disabilities, doing assessments. I have experience with clinical case management with adults with mood disorders and running groups in SROs. I've also done therapy with kids (both as an elementary school counselor and floortime/ABA for kids with autism). I currently volunteer with the SF AIDS foundation and have had some sort of volunteer job since I was 14 (in hospitals, mostly, and also soup kitchens). As an ANP, I'd like to provide primary care and some medication management for individuals with mental health/DD stuff going on.

I received my MSW from UC Berkeley a little over two years ago and will hopefully have my license in a few months. I got a 1420 on the GREs (I think the breakdown was 760V,660M) and As in all of my prerequisites (although two of these grades were in progress when I applied last year). My undergraduate Psych/Eng BA GPA was 3.49 and my MSW GPA was 3.87.

Yes, sadly I was interviewed last year but not invited to join the class of 2008. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this year. It's nice to hear from another Integrated Psych ANP - there aren't many of us around. I did meet someone in my Physiology class last year that wound up getting into the program for 2008 (in Int Psy ANP) and I can say that he had considerable more work experience than I do.

UCSF_MEPN - my application still says my letters are missing, which can't be true, because most of them rolled over from last year. So I think they just haven't entered them into the system yet.

My application also say the letters are not available.

thanks moreplease,

you are a great candidate and it was a little depressing for me to hear that you didn't get in with all that you have. i have similar background except a few more years as an lcsw. seems like alot of social workers are transitioning to np programs. where did you take your pre-reqs and are you considering any other programs? do any other programs even offer the integrated track?

Has anyone who applied this year heard back yet about the status of their application being complete or not? Thanks!

Not yet. It might take them a few weeks to settle and another week or so to enter all the application stuff we mailed in.

Hey all you 2009 applicants. Congrats for getting your apps. in by the deadline. I too was admitted last year into the Psych CNS/ANP track. Currently there are only two of us in that concentration.

Interview day for me was kind of a breeze. Met with a really cool faculty person in my specialty and our interview was low key, kind a nice little chat. I lucked out being on the first of the two interview days and immediately following a relaxation exercise to calm everyone's nerves. My second was with the Nurse Mgr at a DPH health clinic and as Star indicated it was based on nursing in general. I think the interviewers had a template of 7 questions to go over, based on whether it was concentration or nursing in general.

I never heard of anyone being interviewed in a language other than English, so I'd relax if I were you on that one. As for how many they let in, it all depends on the number of available learning sites in a concentration. As for the neonatal person, keep in mind that they require you to take two step-out years after completing the initial MEPN year and passing the NCLEX exam. There are a couple other specialties, ACNP and Trauma that require one step-out year.

As for the rest, I believe it's optional. For me, as this is my third career, I'm going straight through with the goal of finishing in 2011.

Rest easy until December, unless you are told otherwise re: missing letters, transcripts, etc., otherwise you'll drive yourself nuts. Only log on occasionally as the anxiety level on here definitely increases as each deadline approaches.:zzzzz

Good luck, the first hurdle is complete.:yeah:

It's a good school, but definitely has it's share of craziness, not to mention the amount of reading required.

I'm the neonatal person. I had no clue there were two step out years required and I researched this program really well. Thanks for telling me Portrero. It doesn't change anything, it's still my dream. Really great post, lots of good info and reminded me to calm down.

Hello all,

For past MEPN applicants, I was just wondering at what point were you notified as to the completeness status of your application (ie, whether transcripts, letters of rec, etc. were missing)? I'm just getting a little paranoid as it's been almost a month since the app. deadline and I haven't heard a thing from UCSF. I tried calling the other day and whoever answered wouldn't give me any info.

I understand that interview notifications don't come until December, but it would be great peace of mind simply to know that my application is complete for review! :uhoh3: Any input on when this might happen would be appreciated. Also, do they really give you a period of time to send in any materials that are found to be missing? If so, how long?

Thanks

From what I remember, I was still chasing a few things in late October (a recommendation hadn't shown up). I don't know what the application format is at this point, but I do remember that people called regarding my GRE scores missing (eventually they were found). As far as recommendations go, I'd check in at the end of the week if those are not in- and ask the office if they want a fax or to have it re-sent.

They're busy sorting through stuff I'm sure- and I know you're anxious, but check in about what to do if something is actually missing.

Good luck.

Also, don't even begin obsessively checking your mailbox for interview invites until Dec 20th or so...

Just to echo Star77's words - in the realm of the UCSF application review, no news is good news. I only received word last year when a letter was missing...once it was submitted, I didn't hear anything saying that the application was complete. If you know you submitted everything, and you haven't heard of any problems, then you should be safe to take a deep breath, relax and forget about it all till late in December. I didn't receive my interview notice till Dec 24th last year....

Good luck to you!
