Any UCSF Mepn Applicants?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi everyone--

Has anyone else out there applied to the UCSF MEPN program? They're supposed to send out letters this month (December) for the interview process. Has anyone gotten a letter yet? Will those that aren't asked to the interview process get a rejection letter now?

And ok, to be honest, you strike me as an arrogant, condescending jerk.

...On the contrary I think you're an interesting and complex person and getting a window into that mystery...

There can be no mystery if I was never here to begin with.

How sad! It looks liken Newtonian's paranoia has got the better of her/him. I wish Newtonion well.

After reading the posts for the last few days I too began to get a little paranoid. I realized that I have provided sufficient information for a reader from the admissions dept to identify me and so I looked back at my old posts and began to ask myself if there was anything there I would not want the adcom to read. After a few minutes of reading I realized the idiocy of what I was doing. I may have put my foot in my mouth once or twice on allnurses but I have never been intentionally rude or mean. I have expressed my thoughts and opinions as honesty as I can. Hopefully some forum readers have found them comforting, usefull, or at least thought provoking.

I have learned a great deal on allnurses. I have learned from nurses and nursing students from all over the world. I have been encouraged and comforted. I have had my ego stroked and my ego bruised. And I have thought a great deal about what I have read.

I will not delete my posts. They contribute to a body of knowledge that is much greater than then sum of its parts and I hope it will be usefull for future readers.

Yay! I finally got my mail today and received an invitation to interview for the FNP specialty on the 18th and 23rd! Good luck everyone!

Newtonian, you didn't by any chance go to Davidson College for undergrad did you? That was our motto!

Peace and goodwill to all who got an interview and all who did not.

My envelope held some very good news, but I am an old mama at this point and happy with the invite.

I am heading to UCSF on the 25th, anyone else?

I also have a second interview on the 29th in Palo Alto, anyone else?

OMG, Finally!!!!

I just got my letter. The waiting was infinitely worse, knowing everyone had already gotten theirs a week ago.

I got an interview for the midwifery specialty. Any other midwifery folks going on the 25th?

Whew. That's Yale and UCSF so far, now I must wait for OHSU.

***SIGH***

Hi there,

I am heading out there on the 25th for the midwifery specialty as well.

Do you have a second interview date? And are you in the bay area?

Specializes in Telemetry.

"Stats" show that you are a competent student and that you have met the prerequisites. I am sure some people will be accepted with a 3.0 gpa (the minimum) and pretty mediocre GRE scores. I very much believe the admissions folks when they say that they look at the application holistically.

I feel sorry for folks who read boards like this and decide not to apply because of their "stats." Not applying is a sure way not to get accepted. So those of you who reading this and thinking about applying next year - do yourself a favor, if you have at at least a a 3.0gpa, a pulse, and the need prereq courses, then apply! Ya never know. But if you dont apply I very much promise that you will not be admitted.

this is pretty old by now but i just wanted to add my 2 cents in regarding relatively low "stats" and deciding not to apply to certain schools because you think you won't stand a chance.... i had a 3.2 gpa for undergrad (cell bio major at Cal), relatively little work and volunteer experience or leadership skills coming out... i was one of those people who KNEW I was going to get rejected because of my stats. i didn't apply right out of college but instead of moping about numbers, i decided to build up the experience and change what I still could. It's been 2 years in the making and I can honestly say that even though the amount of my experience doesn't even come close to matching the experience of some of the people on this board, i've still been given the opportunity to prove myself through invitations to interview. Granted, my gre score is relatively high (V:670, Q:720, A:5) but i had to study my butt off for it because I was determined to offset my low gpa. Even then, I highly doubt the schools decided to give me a chance based on that alone.

my point is, yes you should apply as long as you have the minimum. i'm sure there have been students accepted even with minimum stats. but the essay, rec letters, and experience have a lot of weight in the decision process too. so if you don't feel confident because of low numbers, do yourself a favor and make yourself look like a better applicant in other areas. it really doesn't hurt to try at all but no one said the process was going to be easy. yes, it's not a good feeling to be rejected but what's even worse is that you would never know if you didn't try at all.

Congrats to everyone who was invited for an interview. I also got invited to Yale, but I am leaning hard on UCSF. I applied to the Midwifery specialty.

I haven't been on the board for a while because I wanted to try to not obsess with getting the letter, but in the meantime, it looks like some people have really been obsessing about school. In my opinion, I highly doubt that UCSF collectively read the messages and have files on each of us and then try to match the interviewee with the screen name. Just doesn't seem like they would have the time to do that. On the other hand, if someone like Newtonian is so paranoid about his identity, why even apply that that school? I mean, once you get into the school, then you have to deal with a sneaky, subversive staff and faculty. What if they start reading our campus-issued email? My friends who work in psych would call this a psych decompensation.

Good luck all.
