Any UCSF Mepn Applicants?

Published

Hi everyone--

Has anyone else out there applied to the UCSF MEPN program? They're supposed to send out letters this month (December) for the interview process. Has anyone gotten a letter yet? Will those that aren't asked to the interview process get a rejection letter now?

Crossing my fingers...!

My congrats and apologies everyone.

I haven't gotten a letter yet....what does that mean?

I think it means you need to hide in the mailbox and ambush your letter carrier next time they come by!

Good luck waiting it out!

Good thing I can get wireless from inside the mailbox! It is mighty cold and cramped in here though!

Teeny and Tippy, you guys were right all along. With your stats (Teeny), no nursing school in their right minds would ever dream of turning you away. There's only one reason that UCSF had and that's if they somehow knew you had them down as plan B. I say go with UP and never look back. I've been checking them out as well and from what I've gathered so far, UP seems to have their act together far better than UCSF. I'll see how it all goes here first but I'm seriously considering joining you up there next year. I sent you an email; keep me posted on how it all goes. Blue, I hope you're reading this too and don't feel bad about not getting invited for an interview.

Congrats on your interview Newtonian...and thank you for the compliment. Who knows, maybe UCSF was reading my blog and thought "We'll show her!" ;) But I somehow doubt it...

I didn't get an e-mail from you - did you PM me? Let me know and I'll keep an eye out. Portland definitely has their act together - it's a smaller program but they have a fantastic reputation, especially for the quality of their teaching. I'm pleased as punch that it all worked out anyway. If UCSF doesn't pan out certainly let me know and I'll show you around campus next year if you're still interested.

Congrats to everyone who has been getting the good news! I wish you all the best. We'll all end up being colleagues someday so here's to us future nurses!! :)

Regardless, I wish you all the best in upcoming interviews and good luck to everyone on their future endeavors.

That's cool Newtonian--

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and not take offense to your lack of "interest" in chatting with a current MEPN in your chosen specialty. My mistake for taking an interest in getting to know the future faces of nursing. :) Keep in mind that not everyone has ulterior motives and is involved in some admissions blog-reading conspiracy. I just thought we might have had some interesting things in common to chat about. Who knows, maybe you'll be in my "lunch with a MEPN" group during interviews and we'll never know it. Good luck anyway!

I was waiting for Tippy to step up and prove me wrong, but somehow I get the feeling he wasn't invited either.

Last I heard Tippy had not heard yay or nay. So there may be hope for you yet. :) But from the sounds of it, he wouldn't interview even if he was invited with this new job.

And if it actually was some kind of vendetta/conspiracy based on something I posted here or on my blog, then that's just all the more reason why UCSF ain't the place for me. I would hope that being honest about my frustrations with the process wouldn't carry such consequences but then again, I have heard that what you post online is fair game for prospective employers and schools. Not that it would keep me from speaking freely.

But I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt because they invited some pretty fantastic folks for interviews. UCSF isn't the only good nursing school out there and we should all take pride in our qualifications, whether or not we were admitted. Life goes on...

Ha! I think I have my progress in the program under control without having to worry about who I "affiliate" myself with. I'd like to see someone try to interfere based on my choice of acquaintances.

Speaking honestly though, I'll admit I wanted to meet you because early on in the posts I thought you came off a little arrogant and offensive. I don't know who the current MEPN was who posted earlier that got off on the wrong foot with you, but I wanted to form my own opinion by talking to you in person. I hope you don't take offense at what I'm saying, I'm just trying to be honest about my motives (which have nothing to do with screwing anyone over in the admissions process). I don't think people are black and white and my opinion of you has changed for the better in your later posts. I'll admit, it was mostly curiousity on my part to talk about your background and interests in being an ACNP and to see if some aspects of your personality that came across a little harsh had to do with the difficulty of online communication. I'd hate to think I had formed an opinion of a potential future colleague on a few message board posts and wanted to see how that opinion might change by chatting face-to-face.

Again, I stress that I really don't want you to take offense. I don't think you're a bad person at all--if I did, I never would have wanted to meet. On the contrary I think you're an interesting and complex person and getting a window into that mystery was my only motive, along with answering any ACNP questions. I do understand the stresses of the application process though and respect your wanting to be careful about who might be reading this. I will drop the subject of meeting from here on out, and relegate myself back to an observing role (not in any sinister informant way, I'm just more of a people-watcher). :)
