Any UCSF Mepn Applicants?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi everyone--

Has anyone else out there applied to the UCSF MEPN program? They're supposed to send out letters this month (December) for the interview process. Has anyone gotten a letter yet? Will those that aren't asked to the interview process get a rejection letter now?

Crossing my fingers...!

I was bumped off my flight home for Christmas and am now leaving at 6am tomorrow out of SFO. However, every cloud has a silver lining, because I just got back from the airport to find a letter inviting me to interview on the 25th for ANP/PCNS!

Hurray!

Good luck to everyone and happy holidays :-)

Whooo hoooo! I am glad you will be interviewing and I am glad you got he news before Christmas. What a nice present!

Congratulations everyone! I'm still waiting for my letter in Oakland. I guess I won't hear til Monday (sigh)

Arggghh- the mail is so slow across that darn bridge. Best wishes for a good letter.

Congratulations to those who made it to the next step! For the majority of us who won't, don't lose faith. Anyone who got in care to post their qualifications? My mail doesn't get here for a while and my ulcer's growing!

Hi there Medic - I didn't get an interview but my stats are as follows: Undergrad degree in Global Studies from UCSB, 3.76 GPA, V: 540 A: 750 W: 5.5, second year applicant, 1.5+ years of volunteering in the ER of a large hospital, 1/2 a year volunteering in a Cardiac Ward, about 1 year volunteering in a free clinic and 8+ years of Spanish. Not sure if that makes your ulcer better or worse...

hi everyone! received my interview packet today in the mail (i live south of sf) and will be heading to the campus on 1/25 for the general one and 1/29 for the one regarding my specialty (acnp). hope to meet those of you who got invitations!

lovetotravel... i don't know HOW they could've passed you up with all your stats because you have a TON of experience.. but whatever will be, will be so best of luck to you with your other schools!

Specializes in Admitted to Psych NP/CNS in Geriatrics.

Congrats to all of you who will be interviewing. I will see you on the 18th!!! My 2nd interview is on the 22nd.

Two steps down: now need to get accepted and then figure out how to pay for school.

Hope you all have as happy a holiday as I am sure to have.

Let's make sure to keep supporting each other throughout this process.

Ouch! It sounds like you are a strong candidate - I am sorry you were not offered an interview. Best Wishes-

Your stats are impressive! I'm sure it is UCSF's loss to not offer you an interview.

My chance is probably little to none: I have a B.S. in Biology with 3.35 GPA, V: 430 A: 680 W: 4.5, 2 years of acute care experience, have involved in many different clinical research projects, and years of experience in teaching anatomy, physiology, and many other biology labs.

Though I'm going to keep my heads up. I have been offered an interview at Yale and I'm sure I have a place to be, even if it's not UCSF.

Will keep you guys updated when I get the letter; probably on Wednesday or Thursday next week as I reside in Arkansas.

My GPA is a little lower than yours, my verbal was somewhat higher and my analytical is about where yours is. I have less clinical experience experience than you but I do have a fair bit of lab experience. And they are interviewing me. So don't worry about your stats.

"Stats" show that you are a competent student and that you have met the prerequisites. I am sure some people will be accepted with a 3.0 gpa (the minimum) and pretty mediocre GRE scores. I very much believe the admissions folks when they say that they look at the application holistically.

I feel sorry for folks who read boards like this and decide not to apply because of their "stats." Not applying is a sure way not to get accepted. So those of you who reading this and thinking about applying next year - do yourself a favor, if you have at at least a a 3.0gpa, a pulse, and the need prereq courses, then apply! Ya never know. But if you dont apply I very much promise that you will not be admitted.

czyja,

Thank you for the encouragement. I'm still hoping to get an invite, but I will not be desperate over it if I did not get one. Let's hope for the best!

Yeah you're right about not applying is a definite way not to get accepted. I would suggest anybody that is interested in this program next year to apply. All you could lose is an application fee

I got a letter today too, and it is a happy day--I'm past the first hurdle! Congratulations and encouragement to all of you who did or didn't get an interview. I very much felt that it could easily go either way for me. I have a BA in English, 3.75 GPA, average GRE scores (I actually don't even remember what they are), a little experience as a wilderness EMT, various volunteer experiences in hospitals and clinics, and I speak some Spanish. But I am also very clear and passionate about what I want to do and why I want to do it. I would love to start the MEPN program this year because it would be a direct path to doing the work that I want to do, but I also know that there are other paths that are just as exciting. So don't lose heart! And I look forward to meeting some of you fantastic people in the near future.

I did not get an interview, but realistically, it would've been a Christmas miracle. I applied for the ANP/PCNS track. I had GRE scores of 600V/650M/4W. My GPA was (weighted) 3.7, cumulative 3.3. I was a psychology undergrad and most of my work and volunteer experience was therapeutic. I volunteered in an ER for 6 months, but for the next year or so I plan on building hands on patient care in order to become more competitive not only for this program but for others (also for other reasons such as learning, obviously). I have plenty of life experience, as I assisted in performing palliative care for my terminally ill father and my brother suffers from Schizophrenia.

I thought I remembered reading something about administration making themselves available to review applications with rejected applicants, but I saw no mention of this in my letter. Does anyone know anything about this? I would like to know what I can do to improve my chances for next year. I see this as an exciting new challenge to overcome more than anything else. :)
