Hi everyone--
Has anyone else out there applied to the UCSF MEPN program? They're supposed to send out letters this month (December) for the interview process. Has anyone gotten a letter yet? Will those that aren't asked to the interview process get a rejection letter now?
Crossing my fingers...!
Welcome back, chica. Glad everything went so well!
As you can see, absolutely nothing has changed during your convalescence... I think I have given up hope of hearing from UCSF before I return from xmas holdays on the 27th. Even if the cali people hear before xmas, it'll probably be too late for us easterner-folk, who btw, are getting more and more snow dumped on us today...
Instead, I will return to the Yale-obsessing thread until that letter arrives (maybe today, definitely before I leave on Sat... )
Rest up, teeny! Everyone else, have some eggnog or reasonable facsimile (I recommend Silk Soymilk in Spice flavor!) and as my BF told me last night, "just chill the f*ck out!"
peace and happy holidays!
Glad to hear everything went well and you are recovering smoothly Teeny. Best wishes for a peaceful holiday.
I am leaving SF without a letter to go back East and see some of that dumping snow....I really wish I knew at this point.
and for all those who applied to Yale and UCSF, we lived in New Haven during my husband's grad program at Yale --I got to know Yale New Haven hospital well by attending many a birth...(relaxed nurse midwifery practices abound out there and if you have applied to that specialty, you will also see lots of births at FREE STANDING birth centers). All the GEPN students I met LOVED the program at Yale and were insanely close with one another --tight knit group, very supportive of one another...I kick myself for not applying to that program while we were right there. But I also hear UCSF's program and students are very similar.
Please Post when you all hear, I want to send a neighbor to come and open the letter and then call me.
Cheers
if you ever do make it as a nurse someday, you will often find that "following directions to a T" wont always cut it. You will also need some creativity in being able to "think outside of the box" and find other ways to solve problems--hence the numbers they want to see on your GRE's.
LOL, I didn't even see this.
Thank you very much for the advice, Newtonian. Beyond my own volunteer work, my mother has been a nurse for decades so I'm pretty sure I know what it takes to cut it. GRE scores are *an* assessment tool but I don't believe that they are a reflection of your innate ability to solve problems. If you take the exam 2 times in succession your scores will improve most of the time. This means (to me), you can learn to take the test better, not really that you can learn to problem solve better. Although, it could be a combination of the two.
Sometimes, even if you a great problem solver, you are required to follow a subset of regulations in order to succeed - and to make things easier for others (ie administration). I'm sure the parking attendant at the hospital I volunteer wouldn't be too ecstatic if while I parked on the sidewalk I explained "I'm just using my creativity because I want to be a nurse!"
In the end, I want the best for the field and those of you that get accepted (even if it isn't me, this time around) are the best of the best and will move forward to provide the best patient care for whatever community to decide to root up in. For those of of you that don't get in, remember... it's just a speed bump on the way to your ultimate goal. Stay determined! UCSF is a great program, but there are many other ways to achieve your dream. Good luck everyone!
Woo... somewhat a relief about tomorrow. I won't be getting the letter on time anyway. I'll be flying to Texas... I know Thankfully I have a roommate at home to open the mail for me. This mail has to travel "All the Way Under" folks so feel don't feel sorry for me. Biladiabla you fake your voice? LOL I called from a blocked number and was attempting a British accent. What voice did you use? Good luck everyone and stop picking on Newt... Newt we are going to have a gay night out at the Castro among other "happy" gentlemen if you and I make it into the program. Happy Holidays y'all.
Howdy All!
Bad news on my end...I had a job offer a few weeks ago and I've been holding them off waiting to see if I at least got an interview. Unfortunately, today is the drop-dead date for the offer and its just too much of a risk to not take it on the chance that I might get an interview and then get accepted. So as a result...I won't be joining all of you in the interviews next month.
I'll keep an eye on the board, so I can join in the celebration as all of you get your letters next week. (If they really are going out today, lol)
Good luck to all of you!

Thanks for the well wishes, y'all. :)
I'm recovering quite well thanks to the wonders of laparoscopic surgery. Went under at 4 yesterday afternoon, out of recovery by 6:15 and home by 8 that evening. I'm nowhere near 100% but I'm getting there quickly. And my nurses took fantastic care of me.
