Any UCSF Mepn Applicants?

Published

Hi everyone--

Has anyone else out there applied to the UCSF MEPN program? They're supposed to send out letters this month (December) for the interview process. Has anyone gotten a letter yet? Will those that aren't asked to the interview process get a rejection letter now?

Crossing my fingers...!

P.S. TippyToo: Where did you get your MPH?

I too have been counting down the days. I actually was a little nervous today when I checked my mail, pretending there would be something from UCSF. After reading NurseZen's blog, I felt somewhat nonchalant about this whole process. It has also made me reflect to whether this is something I really want to commit. Coming from a non nursing background, this whole experience so far has been a high for me (volunteering at the hospital, working, taking the GRE, stats course, and of course A&P). I have been lacking love-relationship due to my work schedule and school. At this time, I am anxious and thinking positive. I am curious whether they would email or send us a letter.

...just wondering what "Epi" means. Epi...(gastric? demology? nephrine?) My first reaction to seeing this was- "how much? IM or via ET? stat??" :chuckle

In medical linggo, epi = epinephrine; something you'll hear a lot of in nursing esp. in the ED.

Sorry...I suppose I wasn't thinking about Epi-pens, etc, lol

From Dictionary.com

ep-i-de-mi-ol-o-gy premium.gif thinsp.pngspeaker.gif /ˌɛpthinsp.pngɪˌdithinsp.pngmiˈɒlthinsp.pngəthinsp.pngdʒi, -ˌdɛmthinsp.pngi-/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[ep-i-dee-mee-ol-uh-jee, -dem-ee-] –noun the branch of medicine dealing with the incidence and prevalence of disease in large populations and with detection of the source and cause of epidemics of infectious disease.

So what made you decide to go the NP-route as opposed to CNS? With a degree in epidemology I was a little surprised you didn't go for something like oncology or the ACHIN track. Going to UCSF would be an excellent opportunity for anyone to do some research work in cancer or AIDS.

Its a long story, really...but the short version is; some of the work I've been doing for the last few years has focused on what effect communication barriers (eg..language) in acute care settings have on outcomes. That work has helped me reignite my interest in doing clinical work. While there are a number of specialties I would have liked to have chosen I find the hospital environment of particular interest and wanted to pick a focus which would allow me to regularly work in that setting while still enjoying some latitude as far as the type of cases I work on. Given that, the ACNP program seemed like the way to go....we'll see what happens

Are you still Active Duty? (I'm former USN myself)

Speaking of feet, why the "tippy" in tippy-too? Is it for "tipsy-too" or "tippy-toes?" curious...

The name came from having had a dog named 'Tippy' as a kid and not being able to think of another decent screenname at 2AM when I signed up for my account on here.

I know its a strange...in fact I think that every time I type it in to Login to the site...but I suppose I am stuck with it now, LOL

Hello. I know most schools require its applicants to take microbiology and chemistry. I have never taken these courses. Are there any applicants who are on the same page as I am? Has anyone actually got accepted w/o these prereqs being taken?

I'm also applying to UCSF, and haven't taken Micro (took Gen and O Chem, though). I can't speak to the acceptance part, but hopefully I'll know more in a couple of weeks :-)
