Any Tips for Surviving the Long Wait of those Pending Applications in the Hospitals

I may have made some wrong and hasty decisions :crying2::crying2::crying2: but my focus now is to look for solutions.

I didn't practice Nursing ASAP when I graduated (which was back in 2007). I worked as a customer service representative while waiting for the results and eventually stayed there for 2 years.

I only got to practice, last 2009 and it was a volunteer nursing job in the province.

While volunteering, I knew that (sooner or later) I need to look for a paying job because I don't want to and can't depend on my parents financially forever. So I quit my volunteer job to focus on job hunting in Manila (one that pays).

And besides I'm not so fond of going back and forth Makati and our province because I'm taking up my post graduate studies in Manila and the volunteer job was in the province. If possible, I prefer to stay in Makati permanently at this time. For consistency's sake.

But then, all of my recent applications for hospitals, even in small clinics here in Makati, are in pending. It has been 4 depressing months.

If I don't have any other options, maybe I'll volunteer again(this time in Manila already). Any tips for earning while volunteering?

Are those online research jobs realistic while doing volunteer work? Has anyone tried them here?

I want nothing else more now but to practice Nursing but if our profession is very elusive, I might go back to taking calls again. Which is not really my priority as of now. Because I intend to work as a nurse already.

Sorry for the long rant.

I would love to hear from others' experiences especially those who volunteered and managed to earn while volunteering. And any tips for surviving the long wait? Like being productive without having to spend too much...

Thank you for reading. Hope to read your replies guys.

i recommend to get some training and seminar while you are waiting for ur aplication. hosp. here in d phil. is rare to conduct free.

:confused:i am a board passer since june 2007, after having my prc id, ivt bls, i started applying to different institutions and after almost 3 years i still dont have work. my batchmates have work now, most of them went to middle east and some are working to different hospitals in manila.

me, i have nothing to do so i decided to take other exams. after passing my nclex and ielts, up to now i was not able to found a hospital where i can apply my nursing skills and to have a hospital experience.

i am just disappointed for i have so many applications to hospitals here in the philippines i was not even hired or even called for training.

early 2008, i took the initial exam from a hospital in quezon city, but i did not make it. :uhoh3:

mid 2008, after passing the initial exam from a hospital in san juan, i was not even called back, and as i inquire to the hospital on why they are not calling me for the next step of their application process, they simply said that they changed their management and encouraged me to reapply again.

last year, 2009 i was called by a reputable hospital and passed all their series of exams , and unlucky iam, i did not passed the final interview. :crying2:

i was so devastated for it was what i have been waiting for, then i just let it slipped away.

it seems that i am very hopeless and i find myself too lazy to try or apply again because of my bad experience.

after months of contemplating, i was uplifted from a video of a man named nick vujicic,

and here is what he said:

"there is some times in our life that we fall down and feels there is no way to get back up

if you feel that it is imposible to get back up.... it is not

i will try a hundred times to get up

and if i fail and i give up

do you think i will gonna get up.... no

but if i fail and try again and again and again and again...

i just want you to know that it was not the end

it matters on how will you gonna finish.. are you gonna finish strong or what?

and i find that strength to get back up. and i ewas encouraged to apply again.

afterwards, i started applying again to some hospitals where i applied before.. most of them told me that they are freeze hiring, others just accept my resume or logged on to their log book for their future references.it is just the same scenario like before.

but still i have a positive outook in my career and i will try again and again and again until i was able to reach my goal...

a person can only be considered as a failure until he stops to try again....:nurse:

Your testimonies enlightens me. I am a grad of 2005 and I dnt hav a problem in fnding post licensure exp. during my time. Anyway Why I was touched to your testimonies is that I am currently working in an exclusive hospitals here in the middle east, you know what i am almost irritated and fed up with the culture here. I was being hit severely by discrimination and culture shock that I wish I can pull the thread of time fr my contract to finish and rest for a long time in Pinas. But As I got the chance of reading the threads of many nursing forums giving sentiments on their unemployment status I was enliven that I was so lucky fr my status nowadays that I am just simply had the reason to be satisfied fr what I am having presently. To all those nusrses in my similar situation be contented on your working conditions as long as there is satsfying income graeter than what a RN in RO is earning traesure and maximize it. And I hope fr those nurses who are waiting fr the long lines of employment to comw I am praying that one day Nursing employment will be in de mand as previously experienced before. Dont lose faith In God above.

hi jorifice! nurses here in the philippines, including myself, are trying our luck in Saudi. Can you give us some words of advice for those filipino nurses who are risking our life in order to work for our family? Is it really safe for us, most especially to those FEMALE RN'S to go there in Saudi? thanks a lot for your help Jorifice!

Specializes in ER / RENAL / ICU.

It's really unfortunate that Manila is quite saturated :(

I also saw that video about NICK VUJICIC... so inspiring.

is there an opening for male nurses there in the middle east?

wow! Icecandy we do have the same story, you might be my soul mate

Its been 6 months already but still no luck. I've passed a lot of applications in hospitals and agencies.

My last application was in Sta Ana Hospital which is very dissapointing. Imagine, 1400 applicants battling for 150 slots (with backer included).

I'm reviewing for IELTS now since this is one of the requirements needed especially when applying abroad.

I don't recommend you guys to attend seminars and IVT trainings, It's only a waste of my precious money. My sister who works in SLMC you can get those stuff once you get hired.

LOL! We are in the same boat, I took the board last December 2007, because of boredom I apply in a call center industry. And until now I'm still working in one of the call centers in Makati, while waiting for the application that I had submitted to the different hospitals I also attended different trainings and seminars just to add-up and update my knowledge and skills in regards to nursing profession...Well, since hospitals here in our country are politically inclined, so we need to be vigilant and be very competent. We shouldn't be threatened by those people who have a backer. We still lucky and they are unlucky....Just do our best ....I'm also in my Master's Degree right now.. and while waiting for the schedule of my qualifying exam in the different hospitals, I'm having my self review for the exam.

Wish us luck!

Print as many resumes as you can and photocopy all your documents. Get the basic requirements that the hospitals require (PRC ID, IVT, BLS, Board Cert, Board Rating, SSS no. TIN, NBI/Police Clearance, ID pictures etc.)

Then get a list of all the phone numbers of all the hospitals in Metro Manila. Make sure you call all of them, even though you think the hospital is too little or too far, you can/t be picky.

If you are close to your families, try to find out if any of them are working on hospitals. I used to think this was unfair to have backers, but I was becoming desperate. I asked around my family and I found I got backers in 4 different hospitals. If I swallowed my pride and contacted then years ago I would have gotten a job earlier

I know how you feel! Not being able to get a job post-NLE is very frustrating, especially with the number of nurses rising dramatically every year. I was idle for what seemed like long periods of time, but I was fortunate enough to find a job just recently (I was stubborn and refused to do "volunteer" work.)

My tips to survive the long wait?

Try doing real volunteer work. Go to the Philippine Red Cross, or help out in organizing medical missions for the less fortunate. Not only will it look good on your resume, but you'll be doing THE volunteer work that makes a difference - not the kind that feeds the abuse of nurses.

And as many others have mentioned, get into nursing-related trainings and seminars (IVTT and ACLS will prove useful once you find a job). You can also try taking a few MA or MN units if you can afford them.

I did many of these things alongside other hobbies and small jobs. I was not about to let my success or failure in finding a job as a nurse to dictate my life! In the end, well, I suppose nursing chose me and I got THE call when I least expected it.

Basically, the best advice I can give you: Be persistent, but also to continue to do productive things. Unemployment does not equate with nonproductiveness.

(Oh, and another thing: Have you considered other areas in nursing? Some of my friends have found jobs in school health and private duty nursing. Another one has become a highly successful nursing entrepreneur only within three years of graduating. Make the most of what you have right now, instead of pining for something you might not get. Opportunities will follow if you prove yourself to be confident and competent.)
