Any tips on expediting California endorsement licensure?

Published

Hi,

I am currently attempting to find jobs in California as an RN. I have had many calls and phone interviews but I am unable to be considered to many of them due to not having my CA license. I submitted my application a few weeks ago, but was wondering if any one has any tips on how I can get my application through faster.

Three months is standard if everything goes smoothly. Some people have had luck showing up in person, but I wouldn't count on that. Even temporary permits take 2.5 months and they usually won't even speak to you unless your application was sent in at least six weeks ago. Good luck! Renewals are super-fast, you you have that to look forward to, I guess?

Ugh that is such a long time. I should have showed up in person when I was in California a few weeks ago.

It's not something that usually works, anyway. I've seen at least one or two people on this site able to resolve issues that way and finally get their licenses, though. They'd already been waiting a while, so it still wasn't fast by any means.

The board of nursing in California takes forever (both RN and LVN) because of budget cuts and not enough staff. I know someone from Florida who wanted to get a job in California as an RN and it took them almost 9 months to process her information, and she had nothing on her record. When I passed my boards, it took them a whole year to send me my license because I had an infraction on my record. It was beyond ridiculous and aggravating.

Thanks for the feedback. I prob shouldn't even apply to jobs yet. Its just stressful applying and interviewing for jobs I won't be able to get because of my lack of license.

Yeah ...California employers know how long the licensing process takes and aren't likely to give you the time of day until you have a lisence in hand.

Well as I am on hold with the California BON as we speak, figured I'd chime in on the topic while I wait. I am patiently waiting to relocate to California, as my s/o has already moved there. He was offered a great job opportunity and had to leave rather quickly. I submitted my application January 23 ( a little under five weeks ago). I used nursys for my NY license verification. I luckily had been visiting California in Jan, so I was able to submit my fingerprints with livescan. I had my nursing school send my transcripts around Jan 20. Everything was done electronically and paid for on 1/23. I did pay the money for the temporary license as well. According to the website, my permanent license should take 10-12 weeks and my temporary should take 8-10 weeks. They are currently processing applications from Nov 1-16 (perm) and Nov 16-30 (temp), although this hasn't been updated since 2/14. I did attempt to email them about 3 weeks ago in an attempt to see if they got all the required documents, but did not get a response. I am trying to get some more information about my specific application by speaking to a live person (which is a challenge in itself). The number I called kept disconnecting me, saying no one could help me at this time. Hopefully I can get through. Its very annoying because I had been applying for jobs, had several phone interviews, but no one will seriously consider you without your CA license because it takes so long to obtain. I will update this comment if I get any new information.

Well spoke to a woman that gave me no information. Said to refer to the website for wait times. I was just attempting to verify they received my transcripts, she said they would write a note in my file that they sent them in. This process is very frustrating.

That sounds about right. They won't usually speak to you at all until it's been at least six weeks from your initial application (if you're lucky enough to get through) ...so hopefully you're not holding the line in vain.

just received my temp license. I applied Jan 23. So not too bad.
