Any tips on expediting California endorsement licensure?
Well as I am on hold with the California BON as we speak, figured I'd chime in on the topic while I wait. I am patiently waiting to relocate to California, as my s/o has already moved there. He was offered a great job opportunity and had to leave rather quickly. I submitted my application January 23 ( a little under five weeks ago). I used nursys for my NY license verification. I luckily had been visiting California in Jan, so I was able to submit my fingerprints with livescan. I had my nursing school send my transcripts around Jan 20. Everything was done electronically and paid for on 1/23. I did pay the money for the temporary license as well. According to the website, my permanent license should take 10-12 weeks and my temporary should take 8-10 weeks. They are currently processing applications from Nov 1-16 (perm) and Nov 16-30 (temp), although this hasn't been updated since 2/14. I did attempt to email them about 3 weeks ago in an attempt to see if they got all the required documents, but did not get a response. I am trying to get some more information about my specific application by speaking to a live person (which is a challenge in itself). The number I called kept disconnecting me, saying no one could help me at this time. Hopefully I can get through. Its very annoying because I had been applying for jobs, had several phone interviews, but no one will seriously consider you without your CA license because it takes so long to obtain. I will update this comment if I get any new information. Well spoke to a woman that gave me no information. Said to refer to the website for wait times. I was just attempting to verify they received my transcripts, she said they would write a note in my file that they sent them in. This process is very frustrating.

Ambulating post op day zero
I work on an orthopedic floor, and generally it is written "progressive mobility" for the patients activity. This means it is up to the nurse's discretion to which "Level" the patient is ready for. The levels include, turn and position, chair position in bed, up to chair for 2 hours, ambulating, and ambulating without supervision. Many of the ortho doctors include " up within two hours of surgery". Unless I think it is a safety issue, I get all my patients up. They have done studies that this is very beneficial to patients.

Thanks for the feedback. I prob shouldn't even apply to jobs yet. Its just stressful applying and interviewing for jobs I won't be able to get because of my lack of license.

Any tips on expediting California endorsement licensure?
Hi, I am currently attempting to find jobs in California as an RN. I have had many calls and phone interviews but I am unable to be considered to many of them due to not having my CA license. I submitted my application a few weeks ago, but was wondering if any one has any tips on how I can get my application through faster.

Ortho floor nursing job?
That being said, the job is rewarding. You see patients immediately progress. You get frequent flyers often, and develop a relationship. The patients are alert and oriented mostly, and remember their whole visit.

Ortho floor nursing job?
I worked on an orthopedic med/surg floor for six years. Within the last two years we became strictly orthopedic. I was happy enough on the floor. It was a face paced environment. You had to learn how to multitask and deal with many different professionals (doctors, nurses, discharge planning, PT/OT, NP's, social work). The job eventually became somewhat boring to me due to its repetitive nature. I enjoyed that the floor was fast paced, but that also put unnecessary stress on the staff (more and more surgeries with no where for patients to go, putting stress on staff to discharge). I might get 6 patients in the am, discharge them all, and then admit six more patients. All without axillary help. There is also a lot of heavy lifting involved. A large portion of my shift was spent performing medial task such as toileting and filling water pitchers, that an aid could have performed. The patients also were a lot more needy then on other floors. They require alot of 1:1 attention, and narcotic administration. I currently have a PACU position, and happy for the change of pace. A lot of my coworkers have gotten jobs in the ICU and the ER and have done great. So I definitely think ortho has a lot to offer. I don't think you can really do it forever because of the amount of physical demand that occurs.

New position in ticu.. Any advice?
Hi all! I've recently been offered a position in the trauma icu at a level I trauma center. I am still contemplating accepting it, but most likely I will. I have 4.5 years experience, working on med/surg. Although my unit recently became primarily orthopedic patients. We used to just get a mix of surgical and ortho. Anyways, I'm just ready for a change. Any good advice you guys could give me on making the transition to critical care? Anything you wish you knew before starting? Any books you might recommend.

Dealing with sexual harrassment and verbal harrassment from patients?
I work in a county hospital w a very large mix of people from different backgrounds. For alot of people the hospital I work at is the only place they have to go for healthcare due to financial issues. Alot of my patientd are respectable and kind but there seems to be at least 1 a day that makes such comments. I anticipate verbal abuse in the future because I see that happening to my coworkers alot too. Anyways, I think ill just try to nip this stuff in the bud as you guys have stated.

Full time ltc rn job or part time hospital job for a new grad?Hi
Hi everyone. I graduated in May with my bsn. I have passed my nclex but was having a very difficult time finding a job. Last week I took a full time RN position on a subacute unit at a long term care facility. Im supposed to start next week. I just got a phone call from a nursing manager on a med surg floor that I worked 120 full hours on for my last clinical rotation. She wanted to see if im interested in taking a part time job on the floor. I really would love to work on that floor because the staff was great and I liked the variety of patients I had. I also didnt really wanna work in a nursing hkme but I was desperate for a job. However, im also worried I wont be able to live financially working only part time. Do you guys think I should pursue the hospital job or stay with the ltc facility?
