  1. I'm a current MSN student at West Coast University and so far would not recommend at least the online schooling portion. If I were doing it over, I would not waste money here, but wait till I had the time and energy to devote to a traditional brick-and-mortar program. The teachers don't seem like they care all that much, and I could learn as much from just buying a textbook and reading it (quite literally, that is what most of my classes consist of). Instructors have simply referred me to help desks or stated, "just read the information we've already given you" in response to questions for further clarification. started in the FNP track and will not be continuing because I don't feel like I can get an education I can stand behind.. I think you are paying for getting the degree to attach to your name and not much else and they ARE accredited- so, if the degree will help your career goals, then great I guess? Except that probably is pretty crappy if you're a patient on the receiving end of that. Of course, I haven't actually finished the program so maybe things would change down the line. They also have revamped some of their programs so if you want to switch specialties (FNP to education track, for example) you have to start all over, no course credits transfer. Anyway, if online is your only option, I don't know how West Coast compares to others, but as a whole I would not recommend.
  2. Thank you guys! It's a hard decision.. managers seem pretty great, hospital seems great, but not sure ortho is quite right.
  3. Hi all, I am relocating and just got an offer for a job on an ortho floor -- "joint & spine" -- and I'm wondering what it's like. I'm currently a tele nurse with year of experience, I love tele, it's so challenging and high acuity. I am interested in moving into ER at some point in the future, so I definitely don't want to close any doors for a move towards that. Would orthopedics be a bad place to be for a move to ER (or possible ICU)? What do you think about working on an ortho floor in general? Love it, hate it? What's the acuity of patients like? Thanks in advance!
  4. Thanks to everyone!! Really don't have a good idea of hospitals and such (or traffic, really, though of course I hear it is bad) in the area, so I really appreciate all the input. :) I figure I should give myself 1-2 months to find a job so that I'm not scrambling last minute! Thanks all!!
  5. Hi all, I'm a relatively new nurse (1 year in), currently working on a telemetry floor and looking to relocate to the Long Beach area when my boyfriend moves there in January. I've been considering applying to hospitals like Loma Linda or even in Corona or even out into Temecula area, as well as Long Beach. I'm not from Southern California and I have no idea how hard it will be for me to get a job there, how far out from Long Beach I need to look, if there are hospitals that are always in need of nurses, etc. I work in Fresno now. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much.
  6. Have you checked BREEZE? My license came up there A LOT sooner than anything from the BRN, though I think when things get posted just varies person-to-person a lot.
  7. Hi! Yeah I'm in California- I only got the one packet from the board, which included my license. No other communications from BRN or Pearson (at least not yet)! My license popped up on Breeze 3 days after I took the NCLEX, though.
  8. My physical RN license came after about 2 weeks!
  9. I passed! Took my test on February 11, and when I checked my BREEZE account yesterday, I was listed as an RN with my license number. Test shut off at 75 questions, a little longer than 1.5 hours. I mostly used Kaplan for studying, got between mid 50s-71% on my QTs, 67% on the Readiness Test.
  10. My status has been changed to the same thing... "Consider for future." I'm very curious as to what this means, too.
