Any suggestions for new grads + the med center

Published

Hi Everyone!

I'm graduating in August and am starting to look in to hospitals to begin applying for positions and internships. I'm very much interested in the medical center for many reasons. I was curious to see if any of you have any suggestions of good places for a new grad to start? So far I'm looking to into St. Lukes, Texas Children's, MD Anderson, Women's, Hermann and Hermann Childrens. I'm hoping to start out either in Labor and Delivery or NICU... otherwise any area of pediatrics. I've already had an offer from Ben Taub for a labor and delivery position but I don't know if that would be a good place for me to start. If any of you have some words of advice or suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks so much!!

Specializes in trauma ICU,TNCC, NRP, PALS, ACLS.

I have heard that people that start out at Ben Taub or LBJ get a lot of experiences really fast and you are exposed to a lot more critical stuff then the other hospitals.

Just out of curiosity how much does Ben taub pay new grads?

i spoke with a friend who did time there. she told me three things about the taub: you learn to do a lot with very little and you don't get paid that well and they love to have new nurses.

Did she tell you the exact pay?

If I remember correctly, HCHD's employment website posts a starting salary or a salary range for its positions. I believe that nurses in critical care areas make slightly more per hour.

Specializes in NICU Level III.

St Luke's no longer has any women's services and their NICU pts go to TCH...which did not hire into the NICU this summer because of a low census of pts. Woman's and Hermann both hire into the NICU (Hermann starts you in Level II, though) as well as St. Joseph's.
