Any suggestions for NCLEX flashcards?

Published

I have an NCLEX review book and CD, but am wanting to buy some "flashcards". Wondering if anyone could suggest a set that helped them? Thanks in advance.

Cathy

I can tell you which ones didn't help very much; they were the RN NCLEX Review Cards, 3rd edition, revised by Barbara Acello and created by Samuel H. Stauffer. They were way too easy. Everybody around here swears by the Saunders review but I really thought the Kapplan Question trainer software was incredibly useful.

Flashcards are not really beneficial. You should not be concerning yourself with memorizing information, but learning how to apply the information that you already have in your head. That is what you have to do if you get the priority questions.

I am one that only recommends the Saunders Comprehensive Review. I find it the most helpful for explaining a topic if you have any questions or concerns about it.

Thanks for your response. I guess what I meant was flashcards with NCLEX questions on them that I can flip through when I have time....when I'm in the car, etc....not your typical memorization flash cards. Thanks, though, for the tip on the Saunders review.

I have plenty of time, but I just want to start reviewing as I have time.

YOU SAID NOT MEMORIZING STUFF BUT HOW ABOUT LAB VALUES, PHARMACALOGY, VITAMINS,HERBS? WHAT BETTER WAY TO MEMORIZE IT?

Memorizing does not work for this exam, you need to learn the information, and then it stays with you forever. If you try to memorize, you will forget the information quickly. And that doesn't help anyone after all of the time that you have put in preparing for the exam.

Try thinking of it in terms of disease processes, what you would do for a person with that disease, what you would expect their lab values to be and why, the drugs that you think would be used. The exam is looking to test you on what you would do, it does't test you on patho-physilogy, but why you would do something. This is what I mean by learning, and not memorizing. Putting everyhting thing together that you covered in school.

Hope that this makes sense..............

Yeah I have heard the best way to study for the NCLEX is to do questions over and over again. Its not about the material at this point is what my teacher told me; its about using what you do know and learning how to answer the questions. I did the Kaplan reveiw coorifice and Im the process of all the QBank quesrtions and I have 2 trainers left. A few people had told me about the NCLEX for dummies book and I got that-it comes with two 250 question exams. I also was given the Saunders reveiw book which I been trying to do questions from each section and I also have the Saunders question and answer flash cards. Im fgetting so nervous b/c I take mine in 2 weeks. Everyone from my class has said their scores are doing the same as mine on the QBank and trainers quizes-they are varying each time. My scores range from 55-67%. My average is around a 58 though. On one of the test in the NCLEX for dummies, I got a 68. My scores just fluctuate and Im just worrying if Im on the right track with my scores. Anyone have any advice or any encourageing words for me? haha. I know Kaplan wants you to have a 64% but I was also told if you have in the mid-high 50s youll be ok as well. Let me know what you guys think!!!

I have the Saunder's Flashcards. I have a feeling that it will be a bit of repeating from the books but it's something that I can use when on break at work, waiting for things, etc. It came with a protective plastic sleeve type thing that makes it easier to carry around.

You can probably find free flashcards on Flashcards: The world's largest online library of printable flash cards, but I don't know how good they would be for this purpose.
