Any recommendations?

I'm planning a shopping trip in a few weeks and on my list of must have items are a pair of shoes that provide good support. :) Can anyone recommend their favorite pair of shoes? Working over 12hours in bad shoes is miserable and I'm throwing my New Balance's to the curb. They are only good for 2-3 hours before my toes feel swollen and I have leg cramps.

I want to feel like I'm walking on a cloud for the entire shift, or close to it. Oh, and if the shoes look GREAT, that would be a plus too! :clown:

Thanks!

I love SAS shoes. They're expensive, but they're very supportive and comfortable, and they last a LONG time.

I still love my Danskos! :)

I know some nurses swear by Dansko's but I think they are horrid. They hurt, they're hard, they do nothing for me. And I think they're hideous as well. LOL

I wear Saucony Cohesion NX tennis shoes. They take me through my whole 12.5 hours and feel like cushions the whole time.

I do think shoes are something that's different for each person, though.

Well, if you want comfortable and don't care what the shoe looks like, I would go for a running shoe. They are by far the most cushioned, comfortable, and supportive shoes you can put on your feet. But, even so, not all running shoes are created equal. I worked at a speciality running store for over 5 years and can tell you that a huge population of our customers were not runners but nurses who had foot problems because they were on thir feet all day long. Find a store where they have trained people who can check your gate and recommend a good shoe for your arch type. Oh, and don't underestimate the importance of a good arch support insole, they are worth the extra cash!

I just wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions. :heartbeat I think it's going to be trial and error but it's ok. I have to find the right fit for me. My biggest fear is buying an expensive shoe, wearing it for a day or two with terrible pain and then being stuck with it. I suppose I will start with the least expensive shoe and work my way up.

:lol2: All I know for sure is that those New Balances are going to the Salvation Army!

Agree- different folks get different results from different shoes....isn't that different- LOL :)

I went through a bunch of brand name shoes, wasting a LOT of money. I ended up with Everlast and Kathy Ireland shoes (K-mart) that were under 20 bucks, and perfect (for me). Also, Danskin has a rocker sole that felt great when I tried them at Walmart- didn't get them, since not working but if I get new shoes, I'll probably get those ($25). :) Just what worked for me!
