Any Part time NPs?

Published

Its no secret that FL has the worst pay and cost of living is truly not that low compared to some other states. Originally I wanted to relocate to a different state but I was offered a possibly good per diem job. Its psych and I really want to get primary care experience so I would love a part time position in that field.

Was it easy finding a part time job? If so what did you use to negotiate salary especially with no benefits? Its pretty horrific the salaries I've heard some MDs are offering. Unfortunately if no one took them they would be forced to increase the pay. I'm sorry but I can't bust my butt for pennies on the dime.

I have worked part-time jobs and prn. They can be a little more difficult to find. My rate is usually about 20% higher than my benefited positions if I'm considered staff. For 1099 positions I require 30-30% more.

Also I'd make sure if you don't have your psych-NP that you won't be practicing out of your scope based on your state's BON requirements. I know a NP who had to resign and almost lost their license for working in a psych specialty with only FNP.

I work two part-time jobs. I job share in a small family practice with another NP. I work two days one week and three days the next week. I also do 12 + hours per week doing in home Medicare assessments. Works out well for me !

I'd love to do in home medicare assessments! How did you get into it? Requires experience?

A major insurance/Medicare group was hiring in my area, I applied, went through several phone interviews and was hired. It's been a great part-time gig. A few ups and downs (i.e. you aren't working in an office, sometimes there are some technical issues) but overall it is PERFECT for my life right now, great $$ and is flexible. I also love the people I meet.

That's awesome! I can't wait to see the opportunities that await me. Salaries for primary care is horrid in FL.

Not sure what part of florida you are in but what do you consider "horrible" ? I have seen offers from 85-95k on average to start here in central Fl.

A lot of 74-75k in Tampa Bay area. 80k isn't that great either for a 5 day per week extremely busy practice with terrible benefits.
