Any one heard or RN, RD credential?

Published

Has any of you worked with collegues who have an RD, RN combination? I am wondering what areas they would fit in and if there are any advantages of having this combination both in the job market and also money wise. Are there any speciality areas that would utelise both areas of study and would this put someone at a more competitive edge?

Thanks for your feed back.

That would be an outstanding combination of degrees - I could see someone working in diabetes management/education, bariatrics, or just critical care as a consultant/educator along the lines of patient nutritional requirements/recommendations. Sounds like a CNS type of role with that expertise.

Specializes in ICU, PICC Nurse, Nursing Supervisor.

I have diabetes and the other night I had a educator come to my house and she was a RN and a RD.. plus has her cert as a CDE. Very smart lady..

Specializes in NICU, Infection Control.

The only way I could see it happening is to obtain and maintain both licensures. It would be an absolutely awesome combination, tho!

Specializes in Transplant/Surgical ICU.

I dont know of any official degree that would lead to an RN/RD licensure, however my roomate is graduating with a major in nutrition and will go on to do the master entry MSN program. She hopes to get both licensures at the end of it all. She has to do an internship to get her RD before she can qualify for the certification.

There is no official degree that offers both combinations but I already have an MS in nutrition, so I would have to do an RD internship and then pursue an ADN /BSN degree.

Thanks for all your wonderful feed back!
