Hello Everyone,

I was just wondering if there are any nursing students from the DFW or Sherman-Denison area. If so, which school do you attend and how do you like it?

Just Curious,

Hi Lucky,

Just wanted say hi and good luck with school.

I am from Texas, and will be starting nursing school in August. Unfortunately, I am not in your area, although I am about 90 miles east of Dallas. I do have a niece who lives in Pottsboro who will be starting Grayson in the fall and who is planning on going to nursing school there.

Good luck in your journey~

I am currently taking my pre-reqs at Grayson. I am from Sherman. I am not planning to attend the nursing program at Grayson unless I don't get in anywhere else, it is definitely my last choice. Grayson's nursing program has some real problems in the area of clinicals and does not have a good reputation in the DFW area. Collin County or Dallas County is worth the drive. I just changed my major, I was a junior at UNT so I am pretty close to having my BSN (just need the nursing part) so I am going to try and go to TWU or back to UT Austin, where I attended for a year.

Wish you luck and would love to chat more!

I completly disagree with you. The nursing program at Grayson County College has a wonderful reputation. I have just graduated from there and the job offers were coming from all places. We had recruiters from major Dallas hospitals trying to sign us up after the 2nd semester. Our program was the hardest in the area. We lost over 50% of the class, but the ones that did pass, also passed the NCLEX. Some students transferred after the second semester to Collin County College because it is way easier. The mom of our class representative is a nursing instructor at Collin County College and she sent her son to our school simply because it is more respected, and you don't have any trouble getting a job anywhere. I work at a large teaching hospital in Dallas and there and many charge nurses here from Grayson. And why does Grayson have issues with clinicals? I never had problems. Please don't just pass judgement based on what you heard from people. Over half of our class were students from the Dallas area driving over an hour to attend Grayson. That's just my opinion. And BTW, the nursing instructors are GREAT!!!

I know a person that just graduated from Grayson...to my knowledge, this person didn't have major problems, and is already working as a GN awaiting the NCLEX date to come. :)

As far as the D/FW area, if you're wanting a 2-yr....DCCCD's Broohaven is quicker. They have a good program, and it goes through the summer.

No, I don't go to Brookhaven, but have heard good things about it.

I live in Plano and am in the Brookhaven Program first semester. The Instructors have been great. They have a 100% pass rate so far on the NCLEX.

I have heard good things about Grayson, too. Collin County is hard to get into because they do not accept as many student each semester. I think they only take 30-40 in Spring and the same in the Fall. There is a long waiting list!!

I will be a nursing student at San Antonio College ADN/RN program in August

If you could please tell me where you found this negative information on Grayson I would really appreciate it. I have been accepted for the Fall. Because I am from Austin and not familiar with schools in the area, I had no information going in other than Grayson had good pass rates. I do not want to go to a school with a bad reputation, so if you have any info either way on Grayson please let me know.

Thanks

:yeahthat:

Hey no hard feelings...didn't mean to ruffle any feathers! This is just IMHO. My mom graduated from Grayson and she advised to me to go anywhere else. I also work with a nurse that was an instructor at Grayson and her friend still teaches there, she told me to think twice about it. I work for a staffing agency that staffs nurses to all the BIG hospitals in Dallas and I will tell you that Grayson does not have a good reputation and that is coming from House supervisers and Nurse Managers. I am from Sherman, raised here my entire life and I know from personal experience that Grayson is not that great of a school. Most people from this area know that and only go there because it is close and they don't want to drive. I am sure there are many people from the DFW area that come here because it is hard to get into any nursing program and Grayson is only an hour north of DFW. When you are desperate you will take anything you can get. I myself may end up here...who knows but it is definitely not my first choice.

Good luck to you all!!! I hear that what really matters is what you learn on the job anyway so I guess it shouldn't matter where you go anyway as long as you graduate. I was just putting my two cents in.
