Any nurses working for JCAHO

Hello all. I have been a nurse for three years and I am interested in going back to school. I have recently sparked interest in being a JCAHO surveyor. I would like to know what path I should take to obtain this goal. Is there a particular masters degree I should pursue? What about experience. What type of experience will I need? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks in advance

First -- there is no longer any "O" It's now just Joint Commission. I have no idea why; maybe just to sell new manuals.

I believe you have to have experience as a Chief Nurse Executive in order to be considered as a surveyor. So you need to make that your interim goal - which for most facilities means at least an MSN. Some of our CNEs have doctorates.

You're being very nice. My opinions are all bad. Mostly I think JCAHO stuff is designed to keep the JCAHO people working. I have yet to see any of their requirements that make my job any better, easier, safer or more efficient.

Good luck, by the way. While most nurses believe Joint Commission has increased their workload, some believe that hospitals are safer because at least occasionally an outsider performs these audits. And remember that the focus is on patient safety, not staff safety or satisfaction. :D

you have to have a advance degree in bean counting 101, you also have to have many hrs in the course of "i'm better than you and you are wrong and i'm right".
