Any new nursing grads thinking of moving to Los Angeles/recently relocate there?

I currently live in New York and graduated nursing school this past may/take NCLEX in August and would love to chat with anyone thinking of relocating to LA as a new nurse.

Hey! I still haven't heard anything good or bad. I got offered a job in a nyc hospital but the thought of staying here for another year drains me.

You will have a year experience by the time you move, right? You could definitely apply to hospital jobs at that point and are at a better position then a lot of people applying without experience. I would just keep checking Indeed around the time you are contemplating moving. They also post a few Aesthetic jobs here and there. I applied to one recently and they got back to me...I told them I was planning on relocating to LA and asked if I could reach out to them when I make the move and they said yes we are always looking to hire nurses.

I think it would be ideal for you to move there with a job offer in hand but since you are already working if you move out there with some savings you would be ok without one for a bit. And I'm sure you would be able to find something fairly quickly. It is definitely way easier to physically be there when you are applying to jobs as far as interviewing goes.

wow that's awesome! I am working but girl i feel so drained. Med surg/tele is not for me at all! The floor i Work on has us having 8-9 patients it's not safe and the floor is so busy it's like working in the ER. I wanna move sooner and i really don't even care about having year of whatever experience at this point New York just drains the **** out of me lol i actually have an interview for an ambulatory surgery center tomororw here on Long Island so i will see how that goes they pay less but it's a better working environment. Btw if you don't mind me asking what aesthetic job did you apply to? Cuz honestly i would apply to stuff like that now and if i get the job make a move ASAP. I should have my Cali license beginning of March.

Thanks for your response. It's quiet positive compared to some of the other responses I've gotten on all nurses

I was gonna say even if you don't have a year experience I think you would be able to find something. Just apply to whatever you can find on Indeed or even Craigslist lol. I see tons of postings for Ambulatory Surgery Centers too. And yeah, I honestly think I would rather take less money if I thought I would be overall happier/less stressed out.

This is where I applied:

thank you so much for your input! How long did it take you to hear back from that aesthetic practice? Yea I'm so ready to go to California. It has a great vibe to it! Have you been there before?

They got back to me in a few hours but I applied on Sunday. You should also try New Look Skin Center they got back to me when I applied a few months ago and it was the same thing where they send to reach out when I was there. You can apply on their website.

My first time going there was for my interview and I was in the Westwood area. The weather was absolutely amazing/instantly put me in a good mood. I didn't have much time to explore though.

Oh okay so new skin center said they will

hire you? You applied online?

I applied for both as a New Grad and both contacted me in regards to interviewing so they seem willing to hire RNs with no aesthetic experience. Can't say for certain if they would have definitely offered me the job though.

Oh okay! Why didn't you fly out for the interviews?

Also do you think it's bad to leave my hosptial job for an ambulatory surgery center? I know it looks bad to be job hopping but i don't like where i Work now. :/ people on all nurses are negative though they all say to stick it out a year but i don't wanna be miserable. Also if you don't mind me asking are you working somewhere else in the meantime?

As far as the aesthetic positions I was kinda just applying to apply and then to maybe get in contact with someone and explain/ask if it would be ok for me to reach out to them when I do move out to California.

I think at the end of the day you have to do whats best for yourself. Do you think you could work at your current job until you have your license officially endorsed in California and then quit? It may look bad if you quit one job after a few months and then another after another two months but if you are planning to stay at the ambulatory surgery center until fall I don't think that would be so bad. You would also then have a decent amount of ambulatory surgery center experience plus a bit of hospital experience. But again, regardless of how it looks you need to do whats best for yourself. You can always explain the reasoning why you left each job at any potential interviews like my hospital unit wasn't the right fit/unsafe conditions etc/etc and I really liked working at the ambulatory surgery center setting but I'm relocating to California.

And i'm not working as a nurse currently. I was basically waiting for two hospitals, one of which is UCLA, to get back to me since October. I have an offer to start in Feb for one and still haven't heard back from UCLA.

Oh okay i gotcha! Btw how do i find out when i have my ca license? I applied for licensure by endorsement beginning or mid of November and i should be getting it shortly. I've tried callin the BON but they're always saying they're busy and to check the website but i don't even know what to check? Because I've been applying to ca aesthetic nurse jobs and have gotten a few responses but they all wanna know if i have my ca license and if i don't when will i get it. Thanks for your help!
