Any new nursing grads thinking of moving to Los Angeles/recently relocate there?
I currently live in New York and graduated nursing school this past may/take NCLEX in August and would love to chat with anyone thinking of relocating to LA as a new nurse.

I would love to move to LA too! I have been applying there but it is a long process to get a second license there. Trying to get a job here in New York in the meantime to get some experience.
Hey! Did you ever end up submitting your application for RN endorsement in California?
No not yet. I was going to send in paper copies but read it was easier doing it online so I'm planning to do that this weekend. I've been working thirteen hour shifts so haven't had much time. But my plan is to work for a year then do travel nursing in Cali. How about you?
I submitted everything but the fingerprints a few months ago and just received a letter from the CSBN saying I am missing fingerprints and transcripts from my nursing school...I just asked my school to resend them and am going to have my fingerprints done in November at UCLA when I have an interview for their new grad residency program...such a long process but def doing it online is easier and you have time obviously if you are working here for a year first
Nice! Did you send it by paper or online? Because there's a section in the paper packet that says your current board of nursing has to verify your license and I had no idea how to have them verify it. Do you know anything about that? Are you working in NY now? That's awesome you have an interview there! Are you flying out for it? How many places in Cali did you apply to?
I honestly wanna go sooner like now lol! But I figure I'd save more money living with my parents first saving up then going to do travel nursing because travel nursing pays for your rent and food plus they give u a salary. I feel like it may be expensive to go out to Cali without much saved but I wanna go so bad! Lol
I did it online. I would just go to Nursys® for that verification part, i think its probably way easier that way. You basically just search yourself and when your license pops up hit NEXT then select California-RN and then you can pay and its done.
I'm not working as a nurse in NY, I've just been babysitting full-time haha. I'm being considered for a New Grad OR Position at NYU Langone but it wouldn't start till January-February and they keep pushing back the date of when they will notify us if we were selected or not...so its all up in the air.
Yes, I am flying out for the interview. I applied to two New Grad Residency Programs (CHLA and UCLA), never heard back from CHLA though
I totally agree about wanting to go to California ASAP but you definitely need some money saved up and having experience is obviously very helpful so its good that you are currently working as an RN. If you submit the endorsement application this weekend it will probably be processed around February/March. I was reading your post about wanting to work for Plastic Surgeon/Doing Aesthetics and I really want to do that too. I met with this Plastic Surgeon in NYC and she was like once you have 6 months of hospital experience I am completely willing to train you in aesthetics/injectables...but I really am set on moving to California and hope to find someone that would be just as willing to train me there...I follow this LA Based Nurse (Vanessa Lee) on Instagram and she started out working in the ER but at the same time did a part-time job as Aesthetic Nurse at some med spa job that she found on craigslist....just to kinda get that experience/her foot in the door. So I think if you are def set on going the aesthetic route that might be something to consider.
Thank you for the response!! So can I send the fingerprints by mail or upload them into the online application? Also just out of curiosity is UCLA still accepting new grad applications? When is your interview? That sounds very exciting!! And yea I actually had an interview in the city last week at a dermatology/aesthetic office. The only problem is that they are in the city so the commute would be crazy and they are Monday to Friday so I would kind of be stuck there and not be allowed to get experience working in a hospital so I can do the travel thing. Btw for UCLA is it a med surg position? Or Is it for the OR? I also wish I got into the OR or PACU as a new grad because again I wanna work in a plastic surfery practice so that would be helpful. Currently working med surg/telemetry and it's not my thing for sure :/
When does the UCLA program start?
Oh and I just saw her Instagram. I wonder if she's just an RN or if she had to get her NP to practice?
You send the fingerprints in the mail. My interview is November 30th and is for the OR. The position would start March/April.
I think the UCLA application deadline passed but they offer it twice a year and next application will post around March. The only thing is that you have to have less than 6 months experience working as a nurse. I also found this on their website:
Our Operative Services area will have a separate application that will post March 26th until April 10th 2017. This program takes New Graduate RNs and experienced RNs who are looking to move into and train into OR services, but who have no prior experience working the OR.
So maybe they will offer that again for 2018.
She's not an NP but I know the office she works at also has an NP that does the same stuff as her.
