Any new changes working in your hospital?

Hi All!

I'm currently working in the acute care setting at a hospital and there's been a bit of a low morale due to decreased staff and increased patient load & high acuity patients (I'm sure you all are experiencing this). At some points we only have 1 CNA for our 35 (heavy) patients (we've discussed hiring more). I'm curious to find out if there has been any new processes put in place that's made things better where you are. What changes has management made at your job? Have you created something to make your floor better? What's working well at your facility? I want to provide my managers with some ideas from others. Thanks in advance!

right now our changes are positive, as we are remodeling. I guess we never get to the point where we have enough of the right mix of staff for every shift.

When our employee surveys indicated incredibly low morale and extreme dissatisfaction with management, we were forced to attend meetings where we (the staff nurses) had to come up with ideas about how we could improve things. I think they missed the whole point. I've left the hospital, but from what I hear from my friends still there, things are going down hill fast.

My hospital has had a consulting group come in to try to improve both patient and employee satisfaction. One of the things they are doing is a monthly meeting with each employee and a manager(that rotates every month.) it's the same set of questions every time. Things like "do you have the equipment you need to do your job?" Etc. Sounds like your place needs to suck it up and hire more staff though!

SOunds like my currentl employer! We have NO techs on nights, we are chronically short of nurses and we don't have enough dinamaps to get our vitals done (the days shift nurses will come in early to grab one and hide them in their patients rooms) when asked what we need, we tell them a tech or two, more nurses and equipment. Instead, we get a coffee machine in our breakroom! I guess so we won't fall asleep when rounding on our 8 patients or when we run o the next code.

Now this sounds like my workplace except many of the day nurses where I'm working refuse to do their own vitals.
