Any NAU graduates?

U.S.A. Colorado

I enrolled in NAUs nursing program because of the huge wait list for PPCC, but I'm concerned about their accreditation status. Once I finish the RN program, will I be eligible to sit for state boards, and will I be eligible for hire? This is all confusing to me as I have heard many different opinions about the NAU program. Thanks for any feed back you can give.

NAU gives you points for taking your prerequisites with them, and base their admission decision on the highest level of points. You get points for taking classes with them, points according to your GPA (higher grade, more points), and points for the TEAS result (higher grade, more points). In the end, decision will be based on those. At least when I looked at the school (about a year ago), there were no essay or interview requirements. If two applicants had equal points, things like attendance were being considered. Talk to them before you start taking prerequisites elsewhere, as transferring in prerequisites will lower your points. At the time, prerequisites were Eng Comp, Math (intermediate Algebra, I believe), AP I & II, and Micro (I hope I am not forgetting anything). I took API and Micro at NAU until I decided to apply only at BSN programs. I found both my teachers very good and A'd both classes. If you decide to go there, send me a pm, I am more than happy to recommend the teachers I had.

Good luck!

One1- Where are you going to school? What teachers did you have for the AP classes? Thanks for your help!

I will start the nursing program at Regis this upcoming May, I am currently finishing some prerequisites (non-science) that only Regis requires.

I was very happy with the 2 professors I had for Micro and AP I. If you are motivated, disciplined, and not goofing off in classes then both teachers are also extremely helpful if you ever have questions or need anything. Others who goofed off or didn't care to study might have a different opinion, but that was based on expecting a high grade for zero input.

Those are the two teachers I am familiar with. I only took 2 classes at NAU before I decided to apply exclusively to BSN programs, and I then switched to (much cheaper) ACC for the remaining prerequisites.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I moved here in August from MN and the community colleges here will not take my medical term, Bio and we didn't need nutrition back home or two psych classes.(I went to a community college back home) And I needed only one math class back home, here I need three to get to where I need to be. I feel like my shots at getting in are moving farther and farther away! I thought about Regis but it will take me even longer because of all the prequisites and I am scared of all the math I have to take. But in the end I really would like to have my BSN. I was looking at their choice program. I was going to go to a info session to see what it is all about. It does seem expensive but who isn't these days!

I felt frustrated when I first looked at prerequsites and saw that schools I wanted to apply to all required different prerequisites aside the core prerequisites (API, APII, Micro, Psych, Nutrition). I decided to pick a few programs that best suited my needs and then started taking all necessary prerequisites. It might have taken a bit longer but in the end I was able to apply to all three schools in the same year, and I hoped that it would increase my chances to be accepted to at least one of these schools. Hang in there, it is worth the extra semester or two!

Sorry that I couldn't recommend the teachers, my post got edited, which I guess is understandable. PM me if you have further questions regarding NAU. Good luck with your prerequisites!

I'm thinking about going to CU or Regis, it will be a long time from now but I will get there. They took your credits from NAU then? That is great! Everyone at work and school is telling me I have to get my BSN so I guess I am just going straight to that rather than doing my 2 yr first. Thanks for all your help!

Yes, both CU and Regis accepted Micro and AP I from NAU. CU requested a class outline or syllabus to verify that we covered all necessary topics but then accepted the class. Take your time, like you said, you will get there!

Is anyone in their nursing program on here or just taking pre-reqs? I have a friend that is looking into their program but neither of us have meet anyone who is in their actual nursing program and I would love to her some feedback.

I would like to know if anyone has gone there or is going there too! Anyone out there that is a graduate of NAU we would love to hear from you!! :)

Well, I got my CNA from NAU last year. Several people in my class were attempting to get in the nursing program there (you were required to get your CNA to get in the program along with the pre-reqs). All I know is 3 of them changed there minds and were looking into Denver School of Nursing. I never "saw" an actual nursing student when I was there????

Getting my CNA is what prompted me to look into Nursing. I decided to go the Community College route for prereq's (due to expense) and plan on applying to CU Denver. Too much confusion with accreditation with all the other schools.
