Hi,
I'm a Muslim and I am considering becoming a surgical tech. I wear hijab and I was wondering if there's any Muslims here who are surgical techs who I can ask some questions about how you wear hijab in the OR. And if anyone else knows how a muslim scrub nurse wears hijab or has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.:)

Ahlan wa Salan! I'm a Muslim nurse, can't help you with the surgical tech portion. In all honesty, I stopped wearing hijab when I started looking for a job. I didn't think there was any way I'd get a job in FL as a hijabi nurse. Maybe Dearborn or NY, but not here. But since then, I've come across several hijabis who are either nurses or techs--I see them at Starbucks wearing scrubs. I almost wish I'd kept it on, but it is kind of interesting being a "stealth Muslim." I find out a lot of interesting things that people probably wouldn't say if they knew my religion. Good luck to you.

kinda sad u felt the need to compromise ur religion for a job, especially in country that is suppose to look beyond that. maybe now that you know others do wearing hijaab without worry you can reconsider. i know what you mean by the 'stealth muslim' and what some people say when think your not muslim (i get mistaken for being jewish all the time).

Unvailable i LOVE the pics .. i would NOT take off my khimar for ANYthing ..
WOW! thank you so much for these pics Unavailable. And yeah I would wear it like the woman one the left in the last picture, underneath the scrubs. I am just concerned that there would be a problem with the hijab covering my neck and being exposed in the OR.
wouldnt it be okay as long as it didnt hang? i dont know the requirements for a scrub tech but i know when i was doing clinicals in the summer, i just kept it inside my scrub shirt so that it didnt hang..
covering your neck? . not sure what you mean ..i'd assume you would just tuck it in your collar of your top/scrubs
thats what i do .. well mine is pinned at the neck and then it hangs inside my shirt .. much like the pics

I am not muslim, however I do occassionally work with a lady who is and there are surgical caps for orthopedic cases that cover the head and also neck. I wish i had a photo, she wears those caps and has not had any issues. Hope this helps.
these ones marv? ..the only problem with these is that they are see through, though the first one doesnt appear to be so. but if it was a problem these could be worn over the hijaab.
