I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.
Thanks for your interest!
Don't feel bad about your self, the effort that you are making trying to make a different in your future is a big accomplishment, be proud, be positive. By the way 3 nights ago I was looking at the ceiling until 3:00am NO SLEEP AT ALL thinking what I will do if I don't get accepted, I don't have a plan B, I speak of my self but I think all of us in this forum are on the same train regarding the anxiety. But I will include you on my prayer of every day, sometimes 10 times a day, God must be so tired of me asking:plsebeg: like a crazy maniac about this nursing program, but anyway lets keep the positive attitude and hope for the best outcome.
So far the starting GPA is 3.5, so I hear.
Did you mean that the CUT OFF GPA is 3.5 so far? not starting! Anyway, I hope what you say is true because it's ridiculous that they're taking so long. Especially for those of us who will need to seek private sources of financial aid should we get in.
Someone mentioned in an eralier post that they heard that they mail out the rejection letters first, and that is how it was done last year. I think that statement is incorrect. They actually mail out the acceptance letters first, and after everyone has accepeted and all the spots are filled (because some people do reject and then they have to pick the next person on the rank list to offer an acceptance to), THEN they mail out the rejection letters. They have to make sure that all the spots are filled before they scan start rejecting people. So in theory, if you know that they have started sending out letters and a week or two goes by and you still haven't received one, then you likely did not make the cut-off and will probably end up with a rejection letter later instead...unless of course you happen to be so luckly that someone turns down an acceptance and you were next on the wait list. I wouldn't hold my breath on that one though. But there will be some offers turned down as we were told that it is possible to get accepted into both the Accelerated and Generic programs (for those who applied to both and happen to be at the top pf the ranks). I did that, so I know if I get accepted, I will likely be freeing up a spot in one of those programs for someone waiting to get it.
Good luck to all!
I got rejected last semester and my rejection letter came on the mail way after the mandatory information session, I know this because I was on a class with more than 15 student that got accepted. I was really depress for at least a month but I register for 3 more classes and concentrated in my family and soon I forgot about it. My GPA is higher now but I lost almost 6 month after all my pre-req were finish. so I agree with EMPRESST the acceptance letters are send before rejection. But this year everything seems to be different so let's hope for the acceptance letter:luvnltr:
Olofin,
I always thought that the only classes that counted towards your GPA was the pre-req's but an Advisor told me that it's not like that so if I dont get accepted I too will be taking more classes to bring it up from a 3.53 to something much higher.............I AM PRAYING FOR US also I have everyone praying for us also ..........This week is going to be a crazy week ....................taking those trips to the mailbox

We are both saying the same thing. Let me qualify what I was told better. So far, in ascending order the lowest GPA one can have is a 3.5 to get in as 1st batch of accepted students. Yes, there will be more cause not all will accept for whatever reasons unknown to us. Which, according to sources that is a pretty high starting GPA cause in the past it much lower have gotten in-including as low as 3.0. However, that was during booming years. We are now in a Great Recession, filled with budget cuts.
Also, the reason it takes so long to mail letters is because students that have transferred over classes from other College around the US takes time to sort out snail mail and further due diligence that goes into the process.
Friendly reminder for MOMMY'S GIRL, please PM me with your recommendation of teachers that are good. To me this is key for a new student. And I thank you so much for it in advance.
My friend told me the same thing but I didn't want to post anything but I guess she was right .........................Dont worry as soon as I get something/anything i will be posting..........I feel as if we are all friends and family now ...................I hope we are IN so we can study together ::))

Olofin1,
Go online and go to current studens. Then on the left hand side go to "Search for Classes" and then it allows you to pick the class and the semester you want to see. I already picked out my classes in case I get accepted into the Nursing program or if I dont I have my classes picked out for that also. But ofcourse we can't register till 6/17/09.
