Also worried about my lil guy transitioning to not being around me:crying2: for the both of us. i just work a few days a wk now when dad comes home i leave and work 4-5 hrs so hes never been away from both of us. so not only im a nervouse about going back after 7 years im going to have to have my lil guy on my mind. i know this is for the best in the long haul but hes my:redbeathe
Well- I'm not a "Mama", but I am an at home Daddy to 3 little ones and have been for the last 2.5 years. I am currently in my last year of nursing school. I started my pre-reqs in 2007. At the time I had a 1 year old, and a VERY pregnant Wife. My second was born in 2007, and my third was born in 2009. I started Nursing school in 2010. My kids are currently 5, 4, and 2- and I am home with them... EVERY DAY. I take them to swim lessons, gymnastics, dance class, soccer, doctor appointments, every thing all day every day and I go to school nights and weekends, and have a part time job at a restaurant as a waiter. Life is CRAZY- but doable, and I do this because I know I will be able to support my Wife and kids some day. We make lots of sacrifices, but it'll be worth it in the end. My Wife is also super supportive so that helps- but it is doable! Hang in there, and you are not alone. Stay focused and all will work out! Hard work goes a long way!

wow you are a busy daddy! good for you and ya im prob going to only do 2 classes at a time until i get a hang on things i dont want to mess it up but idont want to be in school for tens years just to get my bsn! so im going to have to find out how much longer itll take if i only do 2 classes a quarter:uhoh3:
What classes are you taking? A lot of the pre-reqs can be taken online. (English, math, psychology, ethics, etc...) You could work on school at night after hubby is home. Or maybe put him in daycare a couple mornings a week for some study time. He will adjust just fine.I have 3 kids. Two are in school during the day and my little one just started preschool. He goes 3 hours a day each afternoon. I'm taking 4 classes this semester, which is a lot considering I also work fulltime (at night and luckily from home..) but I am managing. Three of my classes are online and I only go on campus for math 2 days a week. I picked a class that fell during my son's preschool hours so it's perfect for us.
You can do this!
i have not started yet just trying to do my reasearch leaning toward getting a bsn instead of a asn even though itll take longer itll help bridge me to a msn eventually:nurse: so havenot even take my placement test or anyof that...or the sat's :' so far only set the counselors appt.
I just started my pre-reqs in August. I am taking Math, Eng, and Psych. I am 32, have been out of highschool for 13 years. I am married, have a 7 y.o daughter, and a 2 y/o son. I stay at home with my son during the day, and my dh gets home from work around 4, and then I leave to go to the library for a couple hrs before my class starts, and after class I go back to the library until it closes at 9. My husband has been so very supportive. I am not going to lie, it's hard. I can't imagine doing this AND working at the same time. I have no idea how ya'll do it! But, if this is what you want to do, you will make it work. Good luck!!
I have a 28 month old who started a 3-day morning program just today (!), and I'm planning on working toward taking prerequisites/applying to schools next fall. I already have a BA in chemistry so I'm over halfway there; I'll be either pursuing an Accelerated BSN program with the longterm plan of pursuing nurse-midwifery, or I'll be aiming for a direct-entry MSN program. There's still the possibility that I'll skip nursing school and enter a direct-entry midwifery program, as well. In any case, I know it'll be a challenge to balance school with having little ones (I'd love to have another baby before I get heavily into grad school), but I'm looking forward to getting my feet wet and working toward my career after a couple of years as a stay-at-home parent!

ooo a midewifery program soo exciting! out next birth we going to have a home birth since our last was a sucess with a all natural birth so we want to try a water birthnext. so im might want to do that too!!
i took some pre-reqs online and some in person. i have to admit though, that i felt the online classes were actually harder. there seemed to be waaaaaaaaaay more info to leaf through. it can be done though...
def take any co-reqs you can while you're waiting to get in your program. my twins turned 1 the first week of my RN program. it would have been impossible for me to manage my core nursing classes and co-reqs with being a mommy.
my advice to you, take advantage of any and all babysitting resources you have to make sure you pass your classes. as a mom i'd feel terrible if i took all that time away from my family and failed. also, know that your clinicals will eventually be 12 hour shifts.
i dont know that ive ever really have had mommy guilt, since i know im bettering our situation.
good luck to all the mommy student nurses!

You may not have a choice if your class is online or not. My Psych class is a hybrid class. We do the work online, and meet once a week in class to talk about it. I wouldn't choose it that way, but that's how it is.
pre reqs are required to get into the program - anatomy, psych, chem, bio. co reqs can be taken with your nursing classes - micro bio, eng 102. take your pre reqs first and get your name on your nursing program list (if theres a wait. i waited for 1 1/2 years!). then take any co reqs so that when you're in the program you can focus on your nursing classes - you'll need it.
also, depending on what your background is, you may be able to test out of some classes. i was able to avoid taking a writing class and i believe a teacher in my class was looking into testing out of the eng class -so check with your school.
there are a lot of moms (and dads) in my class and we've made it to block #4! it has been a very, very rocky road but you can do it!
