Any legit job websites?

Nurses Recovery

Published

I scour the paper daily, but are there any GOOD online sites that have job leads? Good ones? In OK, while in the peer program I can not do Home Health, work between hours of midnight and 5 AM, and can't pass narcs for 1st 6 months (also, if we get a nursing job that does not have any narcs involved, we have to be in the program LONGER...as in the full 5 years instead of the minimum of two). We also can not work for a nursing agency.

I can't seem to find any online that aren't agencies or travel RN positions. Good website addy's would be greatly appreciated!

It is very hard to find work. my Uncle is a DON and can't even find anyone who would be willing to take on a peer RN (he knows a lot of people, even people on the board), and he can't hire me because he has all LPNs, he isn't always there, and I have to have an RN on my floor at all times. Plus, we don't want peer to have any reason to think i may be "getting away" with anything beause I am working for family

I have had excellent luck using the site called "Simplyhired." Not only can you do the manual searches previously described for the indeed.com site, but you can set up email alerts. The simplyhired website is actually a meta-search engine that searches many, many sites for the job type and or keyword you specify.

I must confess that I get a little irked with folks who complain about a 3 year confidential program that allows them an unblemished license if they complete the program. My state has no such alternative to discipline and generally imposes a mandatory 5 year contract which includes one year of no-narc administration. Afterwards, the disciplinary history is permanently visible to anyone who cares to look.

Also, $30/hr is handsome pay where I come from.

Are you in South Carolina by chance? I am and that's exactly what we have. Our "diversion" program, the RPP, is only confidential if no one complains about you to the board and you sign yourself up without ever getting into trouble. Once the board has an investigation, its permanent and public, and mandatory 5 year program.

No I am not in South Carolina, but I believe there are a total of 10 states that have no alternative to discipline programs for nurses with addiction issues. Lucky us, huh?

My heart goes out to you. I am in the same situation. My license has been on probation for the past year (I committed a misdemeanor theft that didn't involve narcs but timesheets related, I did it and I have taken full responsibility and have paid restitution) I have been looking for a nursing job for the past year in that time I have filed bankruptcy, foreclosed on home and basically living hand to mouth. I have applied to hospitals, SNF's etc. I have been applying for jobs at Davita for the past 5 months(my background is critical care no renal experience) I finally had an interview with a manger, she loved me. I was upfront about my probation status etc. she couldnt hire me because she had exhausted all her training dollars but she did refer me to another manager. He interviewed me as well and was impressed with me. He offer me a position. Good pay, good schedule, close to home. I can't even get excited about the position because I am so worried that some person in corporate will stop by hiring process. I submitted my background check and drug screen today and I'm just holding my breath. I also believe that when a door closes, a window opens up. But lately I have had so many door close and there just doesnt seem to be enough windows. As I move forward I will let you know the turn out of my situation

Wade....thanks for sharing your story with us. I am especially waiting to hear what happens with your davita job (I'm the poster on page one that just had that bad experience with corporate. I'm in Ohio and some committee in COLORADO made decisions about me from there. wow. and ughhh) So I have my fingers crossed and wishing you the best!!! Please come back and let us know.

MizChelleRN: Actually my posting was for you. I will definitely keep you all posted re: my Davita hiring. I'm in CA and I know headquarters are in Colorado. I, too was honest on my application and with the manager and thnk God he was willing to give me a chance; I'm just hoping some corporate head doesnt crush my opportunity to move forward and get my life back. I hope you call back and get more details about this "committee" that made the decision. We are nurses on probation, our licenses havent been revoked. We deserve a second chance. If the board is willing to give us a second chance why can't employers

Wade....I hope I didn't scare you or freak you out! :) I will say this though, our charges were pretty different and mine was potentially a felony (I sent the paperwork along that showed it was sealed/expunged, which honestly, at that point I could have not disclosed at all, but I was being up front and honest. I have this weird feeling that they glanced over the paperwork and saw the charge but didn't really read or understand the letter stating the charge had been overturned and I had completed the drug court program...but there I go off again) I wonder if that will make a difference. Still got my fingers crossed for you! :)

I see absolutely no reason why you can't work for your uncle during the hours he is in the facility. Why would you have to offer up any unnecessary information to TPTB? Combine two or three days part time paid hours in your uncle's facility along with the other opportunity and your time would go by. I also have found that indeed.com is one of the better employment websites. It offers a compilation of job listings from other job websites and has all kinds of jobs listed so you can pick and choose from among many. Best wishes getting through this.

MizchelleRN: I was bit freaked yesterday but today I woke with a sense of calm. I truly let go and let God. I have done all I can do. I did the interview-impressed my ass off. I was upfront and honest and SINCERE. Now I have to quit worrying and release it. My case was a felony as well but I went to court and had it reduced. The funny part is now when they do a background check on some systems it doesnt even come up at all but I'm not taking a chance on that plus the information is all out there on the Board's website so no since in lying about it. I will definitely keep you posted as to what is going on. Thanks for listening and sharing. Just hearing someone else's story makes me realize I'm not alone

Update: Last Thursday received a call from the DaVita Regional manager in my area. He wanted me to explain of the results my background check which I did with complete honesty. He says he still willing to go forward but we have await word form corporate in Colorado so I will keep you all posted. I should have word any day until then I am in struggle mode of truly "Let go, Let God" Its very tough but its the only thing I can do now. I hate limbo land. More to follow...

Ahhh Wade, I am really, really pulling for you. I waited for colorado for like two weeks too, so be paitient. I like what you said....Let go, Let God.

So let me throw this out there....do any of you live near any BIG cities? I am struggling still finding something and Sunday night put in for some positions in Cleveland, and got a phone call for a telephone interview the NEXT DAY. The interview is tomorrow, Wednesday, so I'll let you know how it goes and what it's all about (don't want to jinx it) plus I called my case worker with the board and she has SEVERAL nurses on her caseload working at that facility (it's one of those hospitals-that-are-practically-cities-unto-themselves) so they are more understanding and more willing to work with "us". Oh the commute will be over an hour. ugh. But we gotta do what we gotta do. Plus even if you've applied to a hundred jobs locally (I know I have)...opening up to a bigger city, a longer drive, opens up so many more oppurtunities.

Lots of love to all my fellow struggling nurses...one day at a time. Michelle

Update: Received an email from DaVita's Welcome village informing me I was ineligible for hire because of my probation status. They the fact that "I can't supervise PCT's or need constant monitoring" was the issue. I spoke to my BRN probation monitor and clarified with her and she said...yes you can supervise PCT's LVN, CNA's and as far as being monitoed I do not need shoulder to shoulder monitoring just need to know there is another RN in the work area. When I call back and informed her of this she became irritated and said DaVita has a policy that they are not dealing with nurses on probation though they already have several nurses on probation in the organization(they started this in the last 6 months). She also said there are enough RN's out there where we don't have to deal with this. WOW amazing. To say the least I'm very disappointed and back to drawing board. I feel so frustrated. Will anyone ever give us nurses on probation a second chance??
